Cutest Dog In The World

Looking for the Cutest Dog in the World? Meet Honey!

I know its a pretty big call, but she really is the cutest dog in the world. No, I'm not biased at all *wink* but by the end of this lens I'm sure you will all agree that she's at least in the top 5 along with your pets :)

Being a Jack Russell Terrier can be quite challenging at times - there are so many things to do, things to sniff, things to bite and play with. People and dogs to meet and greet, toys to be played with, and most of all, adopted humans to be looked out for. There's really not enough time in each day, especially when - being only two years old - she still gets tired and needs her naps in between all of the fun. Even with so much to do, sometimes she just can't resist a warm patch of sun or one of her many blankies. Still, she does her best to pack as much into each passing minute as possible! Is she a small dog, or a big person? Sometimes she doesn't quite know.

Share the cuteness with everyone!

The Origins of Honey

It had been two years since the death of our family dog Mistie, one of the sweetest dogs ever to walk this earth who was my constant companion as I was growing up. But all good things must come to an end as they say, and Mistie left us with holes in our hearts but a lot of wonderful memories of fifteen years of sharing each other's lives.

Eventually we felt that it was time to get another dog and start a new friendship. I think that Mistie would've liked my family to start taking care of a new puppy, as there are so many dogs out there who don't have good homes, or even worse, no home at all.

The statistics of homeless dogs and cats all over the world are utterly horrifying. In the U.S., an estimated 5 million cats and dogs are killed in shelters each year. That's one about every six and one half seconds.

In Australia, it is estimated that 400,000 animals pass through shelters and council pounds each year. Approximately 40% of dogs and 75% of cats are euthanised.

GET YOUR PET SPAYED and ADOPT FROM A SHELTER

Cutest Dog In The WorldAs soon as we saw her we knew she was the one we would be adopting! Little and shaking from the cold, she looked at us with warm eyes and we melted straight away. Mum said "What a little honey!", and there could never have been a better name for her.

She was so little and loved to sleep in between bursts of crazy puppy play energy. But her favourite place to curl up was in my mum's arms as you can see. Perhaps the warmth and hearing mum's heartbeat made her feel secure in this new place.

Honey has a lot of toys but this one is her favourite. She likes to play tug-of-war with it and shake it around. I think that the long floppy 'tentacles' make this toy extra fun, as she has a choice of places she can attack depending on how she feels :) It has become her mission to grab it and give every new visitor to the house a turn at trying to get it off her. The more she's mouthed and bitten it, the soggier it gets so it's an interactive toy for you too haha! Don't worry it dries out quickly :)

Honey - The Early Days

The Cheeky Puppy Stage

Honey Resume 101

The Work of a Dog is Never Done!

Honey has taken it upon herself to perform and oversee a variety of doggie duties that she feels are important.
  • Crumb retrieval from food preparation area floors (in case of barbeques outside these duties include polishing of the decking to ensure job is done). This job can also include the occasional chasing of a pea, and \ or discliplinary action against escaped foodstuffs by immediate and merciless chomping.
  • Guarding of backyard against airborn invaders (birds), which may include occasional barking for no reason except to audiably re-affirm security status of yard, and general haughty patrolling of yard.
  • Upkeep of security prescence in local area, including liasing with other members of community during walks. This may also include maintaining an easily recognisable 'stamp' on the immediate area around house via peeing on every tree available.
  • Hugs and comfort to humans who are feeling down or tired.
  • Greeting of human guests, (some guests get hugs too).

The Cutest Puppy Becomes The Cutest Dog

Little puppy grows into little dog :)

Honey at 2 Years OldWatching Honey's personality develop has been a complete joy. Each dog is different, with his or her own personality just like us human beings. She has her little quirks of personality (like a patch of floor that she jumps over when running even though it's not raised), and things that makes us laugh each day.

As she grows up she becomes more confident - the smart little miss rules the house! :) She even has her own social life thanks to lots of walks with local dog owners, and will sometimes wander down the street to neighboring dogs' houses if the back gate is left open and it's a nice day (they are only a few houses away and we live on an extremely quiet street thank goodness!).

Dogs are like people, they have feelings and need your love and attention. Treat them well and they will reciprocate. You will have a companion for life who will light up every single day!

Favourite Things to Do #1

Play with her plush toys!

Buy Pet SuppliesFrom the day she was brought home she has loved to play. Tug of war is her favourite game and she has a variety of little plush toys to choose from depending on how she's feeling. She has a little basket in the loungeroom that holds her treasured plushie collection, and will select a toy and bring it over to you whenever she wants to play. Honey also loves to fetch her plushies after you throw them... she will bring it back to you but only so that you have to wrestle it off her!

The Many Beds of a Pampered Dog

Seven and counting!

Honey in One of Her Many BedsHoney likes to be with you where ever you are in the house of yard. As a small short-haired dog, she gets cold easily, so she has a variety of different doggie beds in various areas of the house.

This means that wherever you are, she can settle down with you and have a snooze in comfort whilst overseeing your safety and just monitoring you general activity. It also means that she is happier as she knows her 'spot' everywhere (as pack animals, it's important for dogs to know their place in the pecking order), and will even put herself to bed at night when she gets tired, especially if she's had a big day!

Some may say that seven is a little bit excessive... but who cares? They're so cheap and don't take up much room! :)

True Dog Fact!

Endal, a yellow Lab, helped rehabilitate a Gulf War veteran. He also saved Allen's life, when Allen was struck by a car and knocked from his wheelchair, unconscious. Endal pulled him into the recovery position, covered him with a blanket and grabbed his cell phone. After no response, he walked to a nearby hotel and raised the alarm.

Training Your Dog

A Well Trained DogA well trained dog is a happy dog (and its owners are happy too!). I hate seeing or hearing about dogs that have bitten or misbehaved in some horrible way, because I believe this is the fault of the owner, not the dog. Dogs are pack animals, they need to know what is acceptable behaviour from a young age. This lessens their stress as they always know what is expected of them. Basically, let them know their boundaries and they'll thank you for it.

Training your dog also establishes strong bonds between you and your dog as you work together. Training Honey is an ongoing process but the majority of it was done when she was a pup. With positive reinforcement and the use of food treats, puppies learn so quickly, and everyone involved has lots of fun!

Types of Dogs - Honey is from the 'Terrier' Family

What type of dog is your favourite?

Dog Breeds

Although all dogs are descended from the Wolf, nowadays different dog breeds seem to be as different as night and day! Due to both their close relationship with humanity and their short breeding cycle, dog breeds have been selectively bred to represent various certain traits by human beings. Over the many hundreds of years dogs have been reshaped, reformed and basically fiddled with to meet the needs or desires of us in general. There are now so many different formally recognised breeds of dogs that breeders have generalised these feature sets into diffferent 'breed types' to make them easy to identify.

I myself (a dog nut in general) adore dogs of all types and breeds, although some I must admit are closer to my heart than others for different reasons. What are your favoured dog types?
