Cutting weight is something that most of us won't have to do in our lives. It is always best to follow a healthy, nutritious diet complimented by exercise and a healthy lifestyle. That being said, there are some occasions where cutting weight needs to be done. If you are a wrestler, boxer or martial artist, this is a normal part of your life. In addition, if you want to lose some weight for a certain occasion, this could be beneficial. Here is a good plan to cut weight.

1. Plan a month out.
You cannot go into something like this without a plan. Cutting weight can be very dangerous if not done right. Know how much you have to lose and know how much time you have. Don't try to lose 50 lbs. in a month. Make the weight and time table both reasonable.
2. Hydrate properly.
Throughout the beginning stages (first 2 weeks) of your cut, make sure you drink a lot of water to hydrate yourself properly. You're going to need it.
3. Eat clean and smart.
Keep your caloric intake under 1,200 calories, just giving your body enough energy to fuel exercise and recovery. Take in a lot of fruits, vegetables and protein.
4. Concentrate on cardio.
While having your hydration and food intake in check, make sure to exercise. Run outside, run on the treadmill, jump rope, use the elliptical machine and the exercise bikes...you will be doing all of this. You will also need to wear your sauna suit with heavy layers over it to sweat out as much as possible when you near the end of your cut.
5. Lose excess weight
This is down to the nitty gritty. How difficult this step will be all depends on how much you dedicated yourself throughout the month. Losing excess weight is mostly done in the sauna and the bathroom. Make sure every liquid and waste product is gone from your body. In this step, you refrain from eating and drinking. You might also want to cut your hair to save a few ounces.
6. Refuel
You're cutting this weight to make weight, not to keep it off. The second you've made weight and you've been weighed, refuel your body with carbs and vitamins. Do not rely on this weight cutting routine as a diet or prolonged weight loss...you will put the weight back on.
