Passengers traveling out of Terminal 3 at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport soon won't have to walk nearly as far to go through security. In fact, beginning Wednesday, November 4th, the checkpoint will be on the same floor as ticketing - thanks to a major overhaul of the airport's security screening facilities. CVG is known for on-time arrivals and prompt departures. But what if you had a bit of time to spare? When Ramsay and Jeremy found themselves with extra time at the airport, they went in search of the Top Three Things to Do at CVG. The results are hilarious.

Start looking out for bar codes!

The way you interact with the world just got more interesting.

Ever heard of ScanLife? It's a software application that gives you a new way to use your mobile phone to interact with the world around you by rapidly connecting you with information and content! How does it work? Open your ScanLife application of your camera phone and hold your camera phone over a two-dimensional bar code, known as an "easy-code". ScanLife technology will automatically scan the code and lead you directly to a specific webpage! Easy codes will soon be all over - on magazine ads, posters, and even on products and stores. By scanning these codes, ScanLife helps you to get information (such as directions, discounts, download music and much much more) quickly and easily. The possibilities are endless!

See the code on the right? This is the easy-code for
CVG's mobi site!

Get your camera phone and start scanning! :-) Awesome stuff!

From Humble Beginnings...to an International Hub

CVG's History in a Nutshell

From a single terminal in 1947, CVG has grown into a major international gateway, serving as many passengers today in one year as it handled in its first two decades. CVG is also a major driver of the local economy, helping to support more than 50,000 tri-state jobs.

Early Years
President Franklin Roosevelt approved preliminary funds for site development on Feb. 11, 1942. On Jan. 10, 1947, an American Airlines DC-3 touched down at the new Greater Cincinnati Airport (followed within minutes by Delta and TWA flights). The new airport was officially open for business.

Jet Age
With the dawn of the '60s, jets brought air travel to the masses. Delta was the first to introduce commercial jet service at CVG in 1960, and over the next 10 years, annual traffic numbers would double to more than two million. Along with this growth, terminals were expanded and updated. CVG added two new terminals in 1974. Comair started at CVG in 1977 and would become one of the largest commuter airlines by the mid '90s.

Hub Era
Following airline deregulation in 1979, CVG began to experience growth unparalleled in its history. As a Delta hub, CVG would become a major international gateway - growing from 35 nonstop destinations to more than 120.
To handle the phenomenal growth, CVG dedicated a new north-south runway in January 1991. In 1994, a $500 million expansion added a new Delta terminal, a new road system and an underground transportation system. The addition of Concourses B and C increased the number of airline gates to more than 100.

Today CVG offers nonstop service to more than 100 cities - more than twice the number of destinations served by the five surrounding airports combined. Delta has continued to strengthen its international network at CVG with flights to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Paris and Rome. The opening of a third north-south runway has placed CVG among the most efficient airports in the world.

Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

The Cincinnati Zoo is located in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Avondale. Cincinnati Zoo's urban setting differentiates it from some other American zoos which are in suburban areas. The zoo conducts breeding programs, especially for cheetahs, black rhinoceros, white Bengal tigers, and lowland gorillas.

Besides the live animal exhibits, the Zoo houses refreshments stands, a dance hall, roads, walkways, and picnic grounds. Between 1920 and 1972, the Cincinnati Summer Opera performed in an open-air pavilion and were broadcast by NBC radio.

The Zoo was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1987 due to its significant architecture featured in the Elephant House, the Reptile House, and the Passenger Pigeon Memorial. The Zoo's Reptile House is the oldest existing Zoo building in the country, dating from 1875.

Make sure you visit the Cincinnati Zoo - I had such a great time there and learned a lot about wild life! And my baby niece fell in love with the little penguins (check out the cute picture!!) :-)
