The origin, the results and the sweet deals!

Cyber Monday was yesterday...

So how did it come about anyway?

And how did it do this year?

Overview

How did it do?

After all this talk about the economy damaging retail and online shopping, you can understand why many stores extremely discounted their merchandise (Gap and Endless.com) and offered free shipping on everything (Apple).

An article I found from the washingtonpost.com tells how different stores did and what were the results of their stats compared to last year.

Another site - ZD Net - has good news to share on Cyber Monday, saying that it:
"far exceeded last year's Cyber Monday traffic. This year...with 6.7 million global visitors per minute - a 46 percent jump over the peak of 4.6 million on Cyber Monday last year".

In all, I believe it comes down to the consumer (you!).

Truthfully, I've come across some pretty conflicting articles...
One says Cyber Monday did terribly compared to last year.
But then I'll find another one says it's did much better (as the one above)!

So, I'm curious to see how much YOU shopped online?

Origin of Cyber Monday

Mommy, where did Cyber Monday come from?

Cyber Monday refers to, of course, the Monday immediately following Black Friday.
It is the traditional kick-off of the holiday online shopping season in the United States.
Cyber Monday means a busy day for online retailers. It is supposed that consumers would return to their offices after the Black Friday weekend, buying online those things which they were not able to get in stores.

And it's origin?

According to Wikipedia:

"The term 'Cyber Monday' is a neologism invented by Shop.org... It was first used within the ecommerce community during the 2005 holiday season. According to Scott Silverman, the head of Shop.org, the term was coined based on research showing that 77% of online retailers reported a significant increase in sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2004."
