Cycling Clothing, Helmets & Equipment

The Clothes you wear when cycling will be dependent mainly on the weather. You will have to check the weather forecast before going cycling. The clothing you choose to wear will also depend on what level you want to cycle at and in what events you are participating. If you are just out for a nice quiet cycle in the country the clothing will probably be completely different to taking part in a road race. I will try and explain some of the different types of clothing and give you some ideas on what you will want to buy to go cycling.

Cycling Shorts - if you are going to do a lot of cycling you will need a pair of cycling shorts, these are specially designed to stop saddle sores or chaffing when cycling over long distances or long periods of time.

Sunglasses or Riding Goggles/Glasses - are also a good idea to stop sun glaring into your eyes or insects flying into your eyes, if you ride off road, stones can be thrown upwards towards the eyes, so to stop injury and accidents eye protection is essential.

Jerseys - cycling jerseys are formfitting for aerodynamics and normally have a pocket at the back for storing other things in. you can wear them over or under a tee-shirt. It's best to have layers of clothing to take on and off depending how hot or cold you become.
