Cafémom's Stats

Launched in late 2006, CafeMom is already the largest social-networking/community site for moms AND the leading women's/parenting site on the internet - passing mainstream sites like ivillage, babycenter, and Marthastewart on the engagement metrics that matter most. With more than 120MM pageviews / month and 6MM visits / month, CafeMom was ranked the #8 fastest-growing site in 2007 by compete.com and has recently won awards from Mashable and AlwaysOn as one of the leading social networking sites.

As the world's original social networkers, moms are connecting on shared interests, passions, challenges, and local geography. Moms have created more than 35,000 groups. Popular groups include pregnancy, raising boys, recipe swap, photo moms, and marriage and relationships. CafeMom features include fully customizable profile pages, friends' networks, journaling, a widget platform and strong privacy / anonymity controls. CafeMom is focused on creating a great site for moms that is somewhere they can come to get advice, feel supported, make friends or just relax.

CafeMom has also developed a series of cutting edge sponsorship programs that allow leading brands to join the consumer conversation, add value to members' lives, and get members talking about sponsor brands in an authentic and viral way. CafeMom advertisers include P&G, Walmart, Playskool, Disney, HP, Kraft, General Mills, JCPenney, Johnson and Johnson, Sony, and dozens of others.

Based on the rapid growth and strong advertiser interest, CafeMom (CMI Marketing) closed a round of funding for $5MM in August 2007 from existing investors Highland Capital Partners and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. CafeMom is using these funds to accelerate traffic growth and further grow the team. CMI Marketing was founded in 1999 by Andrew Shue and Michael Sanchez.

A Different Place To Hang Out

Sorry no dads

I've become a member of a relatively new social network dedicated just to moms. It's called Cafémom, and aside from the fact that this site is just for moms, NO MEN ALLOWED, it's quite a different format from most social sites.

What Is It

The juicy details

To quote Cafémom directly: "CaféMom is an online community created especially for moms. Thousands of moms have come together online to swap stories and advice on a huge range of topics, share photos, and connect with friends. CaféMom users each get their own homepage which they can customize to show off their personality. Plus, they can start public or private groups with other moms about common interests. Moms of all ages and beliefs are now meeting, conversing, and having fun at CafeMom.

Since CaféMom's beta launch in November 2006, we have been outpacing a half dozen other competitors in the race to dominate the social networking space for moms and parents. We are the largest and fastest growing-get in on the action"

Perks

Taking it to the next level

Cafémom also has an affiliate programme which operates through Commission Junction. Not only do they provide the links and banners you need to promote the site, there is a complete library of training available to help you with promotion strategies so you will get the most from your marketing efforts. I find this to be a real plus because so often a sites will hand out the banners and links then just tell you to go off and get the traffic like a good little affiliate without really teaching you what to do.

One Last Thing...

A visual aid never hurt anything

Here's a video news clip from NBC News Channel 4 and a link - http://http//abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3840398 - to an ABC news piece featuring Andrew Shue (of Melrose Place Fame) talking about how Cafémom works.
