This lively, popular resort of Protaras Cyprus is nestled between Cape Greco and the village of Paralimni. Holiday apartments in Protaras have been a popular choice in recent years; you'll find them in all the holiday rental websites.

Holidays to Protaras are much more laid back, in contrast to the frenzied pace of Ayia Napa. It attracts families and couples looking to enjoy the fabulous beaches of South East Cyprus, while remaining apart from the younger, louder, atmosphere of Ayia Napa, 9 miles to the South. Although Protaras is more family orientated than Ayia Napa, it is certainly not lacking in lively night life, with no shortage of bars, pubs, discos and clubs for a predominantly British crowd.

Protaras can easily be explored on foot. It also has a good comprehensive local bus service, although the timing of buses varies. A handy local route runs from Ayia Napa to Paralimni via Protaras. Longer distance buses link the Protaras resort to Larnaca, Larnaca Airport, Limassol and Nicosia. Hire cars are the best way to explore this wonderful holiday island. Taxis are also readily available.

Just as popular, if not more are some of the peaceful and popular suburbs surrounding Protaras. A great example of this being Kapparis, sometimes known as Little Britain. This is due to the number of British expats living there now. Many of them making the Island their home, as well as the Europeans.

I mention Kapparis as it has something else none of the other resorts can match. This, I found out being a frequent traveler to Cyprus. It's recently developed into an all year round resort. So no matter what time of year it is, it's always a hive of activity. Yes, that means bars, shops and restaurants are open out of season. And it's only a 10 minutes drive from Protaras.

Kapparis is untouched and unspoilt compared to the overcrowding in some resorts. It's a small village where the community is very friendly, where they make time for holiday makers. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back which makes it the ideal place for a chill out holiday.

Of course, there are some fantastic beaches to be taken advantage of around the Kapparis area and numerous hidden coves and coastal foot paths peppered around the bay. Explore them whilst looking out to the turquoise sea.

Some great examples are Fireman's Beach and Ayia Triada Beach, just off the Kennedy Avenue.
