How To Cure Cystic Pimples

Not all skin ailment is treated equally; there are actually many different forms of the conditions with unique characteristics and treatment options. The most severe of all forms of skin ailment is cystic pimples which causes large, often painful lesions which can be hard to treat and leave skin scarred. With the help of a dermatologist, however, cystic pimple can be treated.

Symptoms of Pimples

Cystic pimples appear as blackheads, papules, pustules, whiteheads and nodules. The bumps can be swollen and red and be present on the face, neck, back and shoulders. Large cysts can form deep beneath the skin that are composed of dead skin cells, white blood cells and bacteria.

Cause of Pimples

Cystic pimple strikes any type of skin at any age. Many factors contribute to the condition, including:

Genetics: If someone in your family had cystic pimple, your chances of getting it are much higher.

Oil: The sebaceous glands in our skin produce oil, and those with cystic pimple often have overactive glands that produce larger amounts. This excess oil clogs pores, which leads to breakouts. Plus, when oil accumulates, it creates the perfect environment for bacteria.

Bacteria: Bacteria play an essential role in the formulation of this skin ailment. Bacteria can cause infections in pores, leading to painful nodules and lesions.

Inflammatory response: Our immune systems consider these bacteria a threat and produce inflammatory responses, such as swelling pus, redness, pain and pus. Some people are more prone to inflammatory response, which exacerbates the condition.

Poor cell turnover: As the skin renews itself, old cells die and slough off, replaced with new ones. However, in the case of pimples, cell turnover is impaired. Dead skin cells build up on the skin, blocking pores and contributing to the condition.

Hormones: Testosterone increases oil production, and when the levels rise during puberty, pimples are often the result. In women, hormonal changes often associated with menopause and pregnancy also trigger breakouts.

The Treatment

In the case of cystic pimples, common skin treatments may not be strong enough. A dermatologist can prescribe an appropriate treatment to successfully treat this skin ailment. The moment you notice signs of blackheads, whiteheads, or blemishes, you should see your dermatologist. Some possible treatments he may prescribe:

Topical treatments: Your doctor may prescribe retinoid gels or creams or a prescription strength benzoyl peroxide cleanser for treatment.
Oral medications: Sometimes topical treatments aren't enough, in which case your doctor may prescribe a variety of medications, such as antibiotics, oral contraceptives (these decrease oil production), steroid injections, or the popular pimple medication Accutane.
