About Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis is a hereditary disorder of the mucus and sweat glands that mainly affects the lungs and digestive system, as well as the pancreas, liver, sinuses and sex organs, causing progressive disability and early death. CF is one of the most common life-shortening, childhood-onset inherited diseases. In the United States, 1 in 3900 children is born with CF. It is a recessive disorder, meaning that each parent carries a copy of the mutated gene.

There is no cure for CF, and most individuals with cystic fibrosis die young—many in their 20s and 30s from lung failure although with many new treatments being introduced the life expectancy of a person with CF is increasing. Until the 1980s, most deaths from CF occurred in children and teenagers.Today, with improved treatments, life expectancy is about 38 years.

"As someone involved in the technology industry, and the parent of a child with Cystic Fibrosis, I was looking for an innovative way to fund raise for Cystic Fibrosis research" states Clicks! for the Cause, Inc. Vice-President, James Stewart.
