What Is A Cyst?

Cysts are a closed pocket, or sac of tissue that is not part of the healthy, normal tissue where it is found.  These pockets can be filled with pus, fluid, air, or other materials.  Cysts are common.  A person of any age, race, or sex can have Cysts and they can occur anywhere in the body.  The size of the cysts can vary in size from being microscopic to being so large that they displace other organs or tissues.  The most common location for cysts is on the skin which develops from an infection, from clogged sebaceous glands or around foreign materials.

More Info On Cysts

A cyst is a closed sac having a distinct membrane and division on the nearby tissue. It may contain air, fluids, or semi-solid material. A collection of pus is called an abscess, not a cyst. Once formed, a cyst could go away on its own or may have to be removed through surgery.

Thanks for the info! I have a ganglion cyst in each of my wrists. Its painful and I've had some treatments for it, and was going to have surgery but I decided against it because they would most likely come back because they run in my family and I have them in both wrists. Ah well, I've learned to live with them now.
