Dog toys and supplies that Dachshunds love

I must admit that there are many of my dog toys and wonderful things scattered around our house. I do try to keep them all in one place but the balls like to roll and sometimes they go missing. Daily I check on all my toys and it is fun if I cannot find one because then I have to hunt for it. I love hunting for toys.

Even better than hunting is being given new toys!

Ok, I may look small and weak but you may not be aware that I have a very strong jaw.
So strong that my humans stopped buying me little dog toys because I rip them up too quickly. They said it could be dangerous because I swallow little pieces of the toy, woof do not like the sound of that!

Here are a few of my can't live without Dachshund toys.

Before my humans got me this bed, I had a cat bed. Please don't laugh!

Dachshunds like to burrow under things and cat beds have little openings so we can snuggle but they are not as nice as my new bed.

I did have one dog bed when I was little but I felt strange sitting on top of it, I dug and dug but I always ended up perched on the cushion. I wore myself out trying to burrow in that bed.

Then one day this bed arrived. I love it.

What Dachshund would not enjoy snuggling up in this lovely bed?
When I have had a long day playing with my toys and there is not a lap to snuggle on then the next best thing is my bed.

I love to dig and burrow under the attached blanket. I feel secure warm and cozy all at the same time. I have even seen Kitty Kat snuggling in there when he thinks I am not looking.

My human likes the fact that if I roll in the dirt and then jump in the bed she can unzip the cover and wash it.

What more can a Dachshund want?

I love to snuggle, and I know that Dachshunds and other little dogs (that do not have a lot of fur) get cold in the winter.

I have a big cage, there is room for me and Kitty Kat!

If like me you are a travelling Dachshund then you are going to need a cage or crate. Because my last trip was all the way from Florida to Spain, I had to get a cage that could go in plane.

Let's face it at night I prefer to sleep in my human's bed so I really did not want a cage. I love to burrow under the blankets, keep warm and I do not take up much room but the cage is great for travelling and flying on a plane.

My humans were concerned that I had not been cage trained so they got me this big cage a few months before our trip so that I could get used to it. It did not take me long because when we are not travelling all my toys are stored in there.

I was such a big brave boy when we recently flew from America to Spain with Continental Airlines; of course, my humans were on the same flight.

Here is some serious stuff.

I may be short but I am long so my cage is bigger that perhaps you would think it should be. Make sure your human reads this how to measure correctly.

Check with the airline for all special cage requirements - some have additional requirements.

Find an airline approved cage and make sure they meet airline requirements.

Mine is a Petmate sky kennel with the additional raised floor and dry mats. This came complete with two food bowls and met all the requirements for Continental Airlines.

So that my cage would be remembered by all airline staff we jazzed it up a bit. The last thing I wanted was for the airline to not remember me. They may have laughed at my personalised cage, but they knew where it was at all times and most importantly that I was on the plane. I did not want to be a Home Alone doggie.

I was nice and happy in my cage during the trip.

I may have a long body but my legs (do not laugh) are only 3 inches long! Thats my legs and steps in this picture.

Yep, I only stand a few inches off the floor and to tell the truth, I do not really like the floor. I spend a lot of time on my human's bed and the soft chairs but they are so high up.

Instead, I have my own special stairs - I am the only one allowed to use them.
I love my stairs because I do not have to wait to be picked-up - I am a little stubborn so waiting is not my thing.

I have a set of stairs by my human's bed and a set that leads to the soft big cuddling chair in front of the fire. They are very portable so we even take them when I stay at friends houses.

I personally do not mind things getting dirty but my human is happy that she can take the cover off and wash it in the washing machine.

Do not damage your Dachshunds back.

Dachshunds have very long backs - we are nearly a dog and a half in length - and we should not be jumping. We can damage our backs even if we are still young.
Many Dachshunds sadly get hurt very badly (or worse) from jumping down from things.
Please do everything you can to stop you Dachshund from jumping.

Whenever my human reaches for a leash, I get very excited for I get to go for a nice walk in the wonderful smelling 'out of the house place.'

I have noticed a strange dog habit here in the Spanish village; many of the dogs wander around not only without a leash but also without a human!

I like walking with my human and feel secure on my leash and besides there is no way they would let me out on my own.

You see I love smells.

I am hound dog and they think I will just keep following my nose, get distracted, and end up lost.
I do not think it is because of lack of trust in my nose skills to find my way back.

So let me introduce you to more of my favorite leashes.

Yes, it is true Dachshunds Can Drown - And Do. - Not good news for Dachshunds!

Many Dachshunds drown because they jump in or fall in a body of water and are then unable to get out. Look at my short little leg - once in water it can be impossible for me to climb out again.

Ok, Dachshunds we have to face it, we are not designed for long distance swimming. I can take a few kicks in the pool but when I am exhausted from swimming, I cannot just put my feet on the floor and take a rest. My human has to get me out quick because I go under the water and that is scary.

So my humans got me a cool Dog Life Jacket to wear. It is great because not only do I look very hansom in it, I also can stay in the water longer. When I am fed-up of swimming I just float!

Emergency Weather Alert! Yet another reason to own a Dog Life Jacket.

Hurricanes, Floods, big drains, Fast Flowing Water - all these things are a danger to small Dachshunds like me. We live in a Hurricane area so my human likes the idea that in an emergency I can wear my Dog Life Jacket.

- It is easy for them to hold me because there is a handle on top.
- My human will have enough things to worry about.
- I will not fit down the big drains that we have here
- I will not drown - this is the best reason!

Everyone keeps saying that Dachshunds are hard to housebreak however I happen to know that it not true!

I am a Dachshund and prefer to go outside to pee and poop but I have noticed that some of our foster Dachshunds preferred to carpet! I was so shocked but my human remained calm and showed them how much more fun it is to go outside.
