Dachshunds are a popular pet in the United States, ranking 7th in the most AKC Registration statistics of 2007. Dachshunds are part of the AKC Hound Group first recognized in 1885.
Dachshunds can be standard or miniature size. Standards range from 16-32 pounds, while Miniatures weigh 11 pounds and under.

KEEPING YOUR DOG SAFE THIS 4TH OF JULY

....or any day there are fireworks blasting.....

Here are a few tips from The Humane Society of the United States, HSUS, on keeping your dog - and other pets, for that matter - safe on Independence Day.

* Resist the urge to take your pet to fireworks displays.

* Don't leave your pet in the car.

* Keep your pets at home in a sheltered, quiet, indoor area. Some animals can become destructive when frightened. Leave a TV or radio playing at normal volume to keep him company while you're attending picnics, parades and other celebrations.

* Never leave pets outside unattended, even in a fenced yard or on a chain. In their fear, pets who normally wouldn't leave the yard may escape and become lost or entangled in their chain, risking injury or death.

* Make sure your pet is wearing an identification tag so if he does become lost, he can be returned promptly.

Martingale Dog collars are also known as Greyhound Collars or Humane Choke Dog Collar. The Martingale Dog Collar was designed for Sighthounds because their necks are larger than their heads and they can often slip out of buckle collars. These collars have gained popularity among many other breed owners in the recent past with many trainers now recommending them instead of choke chains or choke collars. These collars are fitted to the exact size of the dog's neck when the Dog Collar is pulled closed. Properly fitted, the collar will be comfortably loose when not in use.

We will custom make a Martingale Collar for YOUR dog. We have listed some of the fabrics we have, but ANY fabric you find online we will buy and make your collar with. Collars take 2 - 4 weeks to be delivered and we ship flat rate priority mail.

Sizes include:

1 inch width, 1.5 inch width, 2 inch width

Each width is available in the following neck sizes:

XSmall: 12-15 inch
Small: 14-18 inch
Medium: 17-24 inch
Large: 20-29 inch
XLarge: 30-38 inch

The standard collar comes with nickel (silver) hardware (d-rings and slides)

We can add colored hardware for an extra price. Colors available: blue, brown, red, green, orange, black, pink, purple, red, white, yellow.

All about your favorite AKC Breed - the Dachshund

The Dachshund was developed in Germany more than 300 years ago to hunt badgers -dachs means badgers and hund means dog. This is a lively breed with a friendly personality and keen sense of smell. Known for their long and low bodies, they are eager hunters.

Dachshunds come in three different coat varieties. The most common is the smooth-haired coat, the next us the longhaired coat and the wire-haired coat is least common. Dachshunds come in two sizes: standard and miniature: a standard dachshund averages 16 lb (7.3 kg) to 28 lb (13 kg), while the miniature dachshund usually weighs less than 11 lb (5.0 kg).

Common nicknames for this breed include: Doxie, Dackel, Teckel, wiener dog, hot dog, sausage dog, Worshond, Jamnik, and dachsie.

H. L. Mencken said that "A dachshund is a half-dog high and a dog-and-a-half long," which is their main claim to fame.
