Guide to the Dark Lord of the Undead Legion in AQWorlds

Dage the Evil of AdventureQuest Worlds has some of the hardest quests of the game and some of the worst reward rates on top of it. But for many players, this is what is most attractive about his quests. There's a certain status attached to owning and displaying Dage's rare items.

This guide will walk players through all of Dage's quests. It will give hints, tips, and locations for quests.

AdventureQuest Worlds, also known as AQWorlds and AQW, is a browser-based, Flash, MMORPG that is free to play. It is one of the many excellent games by Artix Entertainment.

Who is Dage the Evil?

The NPC

Dage is the Dark Overlord of the Undead Legion. Since Dage is headquartered in Shadowfall, it's also assumed that he either works for Gravelyn or is closely allied to her.

Dage is also the giver of some of the most grinding, long, difficult quests of the game. Most of the quests that give rewards have a famously low drop rate. Unlucky players can spend weeks grinding Dage's quests and never see a reward!

Oh, but the rewards are worth the time and effort. Dage has some of the coolest equipment in the game, rivaled only by Miltonius. In addition to those difficult quest drops, Dage also has a Legion Shop and a Merge shop for those who want a truly Dage fashion look.

Where to Find Dage

Dage's LairDage is located in Shadowfall in the Skullhome region. If you don't have Shadowfall on your map, simply type /join shadowfall in your chat box and you will "discover" Shadowfall.

After getting to Shadowfall, enter the city and go to the doorway on the left (pictured here). You will be in the undead presence of Dage the Evil.

Joining the Undead Legion

Gonna need a pile of AC.

Legion ArmorBefore joining the Undead Legion and embarking on quests, players need to buy the Undead Warrior armor. It costs 1,200 AC and is available in Dage's Armor shop and the Suggestion Shop at Yulgar's Inn.

Fortunately, the Undead Warrior is not member-only. Anyone with a pile of AC can join the Undead Legion.

Dage the Evil's Quests

Before you can set off on Dage's Champion quests, you must complete all of the regular quests. These are long, difficult, and time-consuming quests that will take you all over Lore.

Older players will have a much better time doing the quests, especially the last one, Hail to the King. Because they have done most, if not all of the storyline, things will progress much faster. Those that haven't kept up with storyline have a long, long chain of quests to do.

Undead Champion Initiation

The Black Knight

The first trial of Dage's quests is to take down the Black Knight of Greenguard Forest (/join greenguardwest). Those players who already defeated the Black Knight will have an easy time of it. Those who haven't can either do all of the Black Knight's quests to get the Black Knight Orb or simply find someone already battling the Black Knight and jump in.

To jump quickly to the Black Knight, go to Arcangrove (/join arcangrove) and go one screen down from the main screen. You'll be on top of the Black Knight. If a player doesn't have the Black Knight Orb, then she can ask if anyone is fighting him. Maybe she'll luck out and won't have to do all of the quests.

Mourn the Soldiers

Skeletal, Drow, Fishman, and Dwakel

Mourn the Soldiers takes a player all over Lore tracking down specific types of soldiers. It's a relatively easy quest except for players who haven't done the Willow Creek quests and Dwarfhold quests. In order to get to the Dwakel Soldiers a player has to be fairly far along in the Willow Creek quest chain. Same goes for Dwarfhold quests.

Locations of the soldiers are:
  • Skeletal Soldiers: Bridge (/join swordhavenbridge), Battleunder A (/join battleundera)
  • Drow Soldiers: Dwarfhold Keep (/join dwarfhold)
  • Fishman Soldiers: Lolosia (/join pirates)
  • Dwakel Soldiers: Willow Creek (/join willowcreek)

Understanding Undead Champions

An exercise in stamina.

This quest takes a player to Battleunder B (/join battleunderb) to fight the Undead Champion 80 times! I recommend players use Cysero's server to make sure there's lots of help grinding this monster. The room is almost always filled with players doing this quest, counting down how many kills they have left to complete the quest.

Get Yara's "Key of the Void" quest if you're interested in some of her drops.

Player vs Power

Time for PvP!

This quest has players doing PvP. To enter PvP, visit Dumoose in Battleon (/join battleon) to get queued up for a PvP battle. Players need to have 200 PvP trophies to complete the quest.

Visit AdventureQuest Worlds PvP for hints and tips about PvP combat.

Hail to the King

Taking down the Frost King

This quest will provide a problem to players who haven't made it through the Frozen Northlands storyline. In order to take down the Frost King, players have to complete a number of quests.

Players who have done that can jump right to the Frost King (/join kingcoal) and hope a party is already fighting him. At 116,982 hit points, he's a difficult one to take down.

Champion Quests

After completing Dage's quests players can move on to the Undead Champion Quests. This is where players will spend hours of their lives chasing around Lore. The Undead Champion quests reward one Legion Token and maybe (probably not) an equipment drop.

Smart players will combine Undead Champion Quests with other quests to increase the rewards. For example, Legion Exercise Number 4 requires Vipers Blood. Unless the player already has the Shaman class, it is a great idea to get Arcangrove Reputation Quests to coincide with Undead Champion quests.

Legion Exercise Number 1

Slaying Draconians

LE1 is one of my favorites because it's relatively simple and I gain a good amount of gold. To maximize profits, I get all of the Dragonslayer quests from Rolith and turn them in from time to time. I recommend getting the last quest, Dragonslayer Reward at the very least. It pays 500 gold and 500 xp.

The Dragonslayer armor is practically useless except at the Lair. So if a player would like to rank up Dragonslayer, doing so during LE1 is a great idea.

For newer players or those who haven't kept up on the story line, one hitch to completing the quest will be getting to the Chaos Draconians in Dwarfhold Keep.

For those who have kept up with the storyline or at least completed most of Dwarfhold's quests, the easiest way to get to the Chaos Draconians is to jump to Upper Dwarfhold (/join uppercity) and then go up to the gate in Dwarfhold.

Legion Exercise Number 2

Skeletal Fire Mages, Grumble, and the Tiger Leech

On the face of it, LE2 seems to be fairly easy. Part one is to kill Skeletal Fire Mages, an easy feat for almost any player. Part two is to kill the Tiger Leach. That's a pain unless you happen to find someone battling it at Mudluk because you have to run around unlocking the gate. And Grumble takes forever to spawn and the drop rate for Grumble's Curse is low.

To fight Skeletal Fire Mages, go to /join portalundead and get the Fire Gem quest from Cleric Dawn since you're going to farm Skeletal Fire Mages anyways. Might as well double up.

To get the Tiger Leech Hide, go to /join mudluk and ask if anyone is at the boss. Then go through the list of players and "goto" everyone and you might luck out and find someone at the Tiger Leech. The drop rate for the Tiger Leech Hide is low.

Grumble is located in the sewer (/join sewer). He's an easy target and you should be able to solo him at just about any level.

Legion Exercise Number 3

Chaos Eggs and Chaos Sp-eyes

A fairly easy exercise in repetitive farming, LE3 takes players to two locales. The first is Upper Dwarfhold (/join uppercity) and the second is either the Chaos Marsh (/join chaosmarsh) or Mobius (/join Mobius).

The Chaos Eggs are located all the way to the left in Upper Dwarfhold. If players want some easy Dwarfhold rep, they can get the "Scrambled Eggs" quest from Jorxlol. It only pays 50 rep but you're there anyways. I like to jump back to Jorxlol when I get the 12 eggs and re-up the quest.

I recommend getting a class with a multi-attack to crack those Chaos eggs. It'll go much faster.

The Chaos Spiders are a lot easier to kill than Chaos Sp-eyes, plus they respawn much faster. Goto the Chaos Marsh and kill them screen-by-screen. If players want to make a little extra gold, get the "Sabbatia" and "The Spiders have changed" quests from Wez. Since Dage questers are probably going to help a lowbie take down the Marsh Smell-o, they might as well grab the "Things that Go Bump in the Night" quest. These quests don't pay a lot so skip it unless you're broke... which I usually am.

Also, players interested in Adak's Chaos Shop (/join blindingsnow) can kill Chaorupted Wolves for Shards of Chaos. They're easy to take down and players will have plenty after completing the quests.

Legion Exercise Number 4

Frost Mages, Soul Seeker, and Arcangrove Farming

I like LE4 because players can get a ton of rank and experience. Plus, players who haven't maxed out Arcangrove rep can really make some rep points during this quest.

The easiest part of this quest is taking down Skeletal Ice Mages. Go to /join swordhavenundead and find the Ice Mages one screen up. Get a multi-attack class equipped to make short work of them.

Then goto /join marsh2 and go all the way right to find the Soulseeker. The Soul Scythe is a somewhat rare drop so prepare for a good bit of grinding.

Finally, head over to Arcangrove (/join arcangrove). Find Reens in the tree. Under "Daily Tasks" players will find the "Experiment 808: Viper's Blood Potion" quest. This is a daily task so players can only do it once a day. If a player is a regular Dage quester, then he/ she should do it every day.

Players can gain a ton of Arcangrove rep by doing the rep quests while farming for the Viper's Blood potion. Get all of the rep quests from all of the NPCs in Arcangrove and turn them in as you kill Gorillaphants and Seed Spitters. The best place to farm them is one screen right from Arcangrove's main screen.

Read "Arcangrove Rep Farming" post for hints and tips.

Dage's Merge Shop

Legion Tokens

Each of the Champion quests will drop one Legion Token. These can be used in Dage's merge shop to get some awesome gear. I recommend holding on to these even if a player is running out of bag space. You never know when a Blade Master armor will come in handy. All of the items are for all members. Although Legion Tokens take a long time to get, at least you know you will get them, unlike Dage's low drop rate on quest rewards.

Is Dage too evil?

Super rare drops and constant grinding.

Dage's quests involve a lot of time and effort. What's worse, the drop rate for some of Dage's items is very rare. Drop rates are around 1% to 5%. This seems to be a bit extreme. What do you think?
