Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That's Bringing Common Sense Back to America
Jon's interview with Huckabee was one of the best he has ever done. I like Mike Huckabee, but he is deceptively conservative in his values. Jon tried to engage him on the gay marriage issue in a respectful yet hard hitting way. I was so impressed with Jon and how he really tried to get Huckabee to really face up to the intolerance that he preaches. Definitely worth watching.
Book Lists from Other Years
I've been keeping track of authors appearing on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report for a few years now. Below are my other lenses from later years.-
Books from "The Daily Show" - Season 11 (2006)

The Daily Show invites some of the best authors (and most popular movie stars) onto the show to talk turkey with Jon Stewart. This list includes all authors and stars from 2006 (Season 11). I originally started keeping track by category, but switched...

Books from "The Colbert Report" (Current Season)

"I don't trust books. They're all fact, no heart." says Stephen Colbert. Now, while this may be true, Stephen has a lot of authors on his show who have written books that I want to read. So here's a list from the current season. You can also find bo...

Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid
I generally like Denis Leary - even if he is a bit harsh. But I find that comedians aren't always the best writers. I wish they would have talked a bit more about the book in his interview.
American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House
This book sounds so INTERESTING! Meacham seems like a bit of a smart ass, but I'm really excited to read this. I think it's great that there is this resurgence of interest in some of the early US presidents. It may help get the government "back to basics" before everyone started abusing their power.

Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution--and How It Can Renew America
I really enjoyed Friedman's earlier book "The World is Flat" - looking forward to reading this one.
The First Billion Is the Hardest: Reflections on a Life of Comebacks and America's Energy Future
T. Boone Pickens is a very smart fellow - this should be good.
A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity
Ugh. I have no desire to read this. I'm glad that Jon has O'Reilly on the show because I think it keeps him balanced, but I can't imagine enjoying his unfettered rhetoric. But you might :)

Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln
They didn't really mention any of her books on the show - but this is my favourite. I've met her is person - she is a petite dynamo. I (heart) Doris Kearns Goodwin!!

When You Are Engulfed in Flames
I love David Sedaris! My favourite is the chapter about Christmas traditions in the book "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim". Hilarious! Hope this one is as good!
Audition: A Memoir
Barbara Walters has had such an interesting life. I read a recent story about her in Vanity Fair. Before The View and all the celebrity stuff, she was a real hard-hitting journalist, really paving the way for women. Looking forward to this one!

This was a really great interview. It's neat when Jon meets someone he obviously has a lot of respect for.

Project Runway - The Complete First Season
Like Jon said, I totally miss it when this show isn't on. One of the best reality shows I think - and in large part because of Tim Gunn who Jon interviewed this week.

Links about The Daily Show
Other places on the net where you can get some related info
- The Daily Show Community Site
- The Daily Show has a community site. It has better access to video - current and archival - of the show, including better video players for embedding (though I believe all vids now have ads). But, they no longer have a book list. So all the more reason for this lens!
- TV Squad's Daily Show section
- TV Squad (member of Weblogs Inc. Network) usually has at least one summary per episode of The Daily Show, often more. These summaries include commentary on the interview with the author as well as links to the author's website or blog.
- Wikipedia Entry on The Daily Show
- For people who have way too much time on their hands ...
