Dal Fry Recipe
Dal Fry is a very regular dish in my house and this Dal Fry recipe goes extremely well with plain steamed rice. In fact traditionally across India, Dal and Rice is perhaps the most common food combination that is eaten everyday. It is a very integral part of Indian Cuisine.
There are umpteen varieties of Dals and Dal Recipes and the Dal Fry Recipe is one of the most popular among Dal Recipes.

Dal Fry Recipe
A Featured Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup Masoor dal
1/2 cup Chopped Onions
1/2 cup Chopped Tomatoes
1 tsp Coriander powder
1 tsp Cumin seed powder
1 tsp Garam Masala powder
2-3 Green chillies
1 tbsp Chopped Coriander leaves
2 pods chopped garlic
Salt to tast
2-3 cups Water
Ingredients for seasoning:
1 tbsp Vegetable Oil/ghee
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Cumin seeds
1 pinch Asafoetida
¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
Method:
1. Wash and Cook dal till just done by boiling in water. It may take about 10-15 minutes. You may also use pressure cooker to cook dal.
2. Slit chilies in two pieces.
3. Heat oil in a deep pan.
4. Add mustard and cumin seeds. When they stop crackling, add asafotida and turmeric powder, chopped onions, green chili pieces.
5. Fry for 5 minutes. Add garlic, tomatoes. Cook for 5 minutes.
6. Add 1 cup water. Add coriander, cumin powders. Add garam masala.
7. Add cooked dal, salt.
8. Boil for 5 minutes. Stir. Add more water if needed. Boil for 5 minutes.
9. Add chopped coriander leaves.

- I eat lentils (dal) every once in a while (it's a staple in our household too) but I've never tried Dal Fry before. I'll certainly try this recipe next time! ~Blessed~

- Twice a month. We flavor it up real good and mmm...I just love it. Ours don't go by the name fry dhal though. Fry dhal for us is taking the yellow dhal pea and dropping it in oil. Something like fried nuts or channa. I love it.
