Dallas TV Series: The Remake!

Yes! That's right, the new Dallas TV Series is on it's way to TNT. Are you excited? For those of us who remember the original Dallas TV series, which dominated our attention, much the same way as reality TV shows dominates our atttention today, the remake of Dallas is highly anticipated. Once again we want to live vicariously through the different characters in the Dallas TV series. We hope the remake will do the original justice, because each episode was exciting from beginning to end!

Who is Coming Back?

Larry and Linda reunionThe new Dallas TV Series 2011 remake will be centered around the sons of the two most powerful characters in the 1978 original Dallas TV series. The adopted son of Pam and Bobby Ewing, Christopher Ewing and the son that resulted from Sue Ellen and JR's tumultuous marriage, John Ross Ewing III. The new era of the Ewing clan, I am sure will be filled with the same excitement, intrigue, tragedy, infidelity, family infighting and edge of the seat cliffhangers as the original Dallas TV series. The new Dallas TV series remake will bring back many of the show's original cast members which is a great joy for fans of the of the 1978 classic television series. Best catch up on all the 1978-1991 Dallas TV series episodes so that you can jump right in when TNT airs the 2011 remake or "continuation" of the original classic. Will J.R. Ewing, who until this day remains one of television's most memorable characters, still capture the hearts of American television viewers? Or will that position get passed on to his nephew or grandson?

The Returning Cast Members
Larry Hagman
Larry Hagman will again play the role of the "loved to be hated" J.R. Ewing, son of Miss Ellie and Jock Ewing, husband of Sue Ellen Ewing and father of J.R. Ewing (John Ross Ewing) III. Sue Ellen had an affair with Cliff Barnes, who was J.R. rival, while she and J.R. were having trouble in their marriage (which was most of the time). Sue Ellen thought that John Ross was Cliff's child since she and J.R. barely had a marriage, let alone, marital relations. She ended up drinking heavily and becoming depressed, causing J.R. to have her committed during her pregnancy so that she wouldn't harm herself or the baby. When Cliff tried to claim the child as his, paternity tests revealed that John Ross was actually J.R.'s baby and not Cliff Barnes'.

Linda Gray
Linda Gray will again play the role of Sue Ellen Ewing, J.R.'s troubled wife, and the alcoholic and suicidal mother of John Ross. She met J.R. while he was judging a Miss Texas completion, a contest which she won. Sue Ellen, like her husband had many affairs during her marriage. Twice, she became pregnant and did not know who the father was. She and J.R. married and divorced twice but only had one son, John Ross Ewing III. Her second pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage.

Patrick Duffy
Patrick Duffy will again play Bobby Ewing, J.R. Ewing's younger brother. Since Pamela and Bobby could not have children of their own, they adopted Christopher Ewing. Like all Ewing marriage, Pamela and Bobby had their share of problems and heartbreak. During the famous "Dream" season, Pam dreamt that Bobby was dead. When she woke up from the dream, he was taking a shower. That famous "Dream" season is almost as memorable as the "Who Shot J.R.?" season and goes down as one of television's most memorable cliffhangers.

Priscilla Presley
Priscilla Presley, Elvis Presley's ex-wife and Lisa Marie Presley's mother, will once again play the role of Jenna Krebbs. Bobby's first true love who ditched him at the altar and ran off to marry an Italian count. She and Bobby again reunited and she again ditched him before the wedding to marry the same Italian count, this time she did it forcefully. Jenna had Bobby's first child, Lucas, whom she named after her father. She ended up marrying Bobby's half brother who helped her raise Bobby's child despite him not being the child's father.

Original Casts who may not be returning
Victoria Principal who played Pamela, Bobby Ewing's wife is not returning to the drama as far as reports show. She was a very powerful figure in the original Dallas TV episode and I am sure her presence will be missed by Dallas TV series fans.
Charlene Tilton who played J.R.'s very troubled granddaughter, Lucy Ewing may be returning but as of the date of this article, they are still in negotiations.

Update On The Show's Status

From a Press Release put out by the network

"The new DALLAS stars Josh Henderson (90210), Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious),Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) and Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives), and they will be joined by iconic stars Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of DALLAS, which is slated to premiere in summer 2012.

The original DALLAS aired from 1978 to 1991 and centered on the Ewing family, a cattle and oil dynasty occupying the expansive Southfork Ranch in Texas. A long and bitter rivalry between brothers J.R. Ewing (Hagman) and Bobby Ewing (Duffy) eventually led to J.R. losing control of most of the Ewing industries. In the new DALLAS, this explosive rivalry now lives on through another generation, with the future of the family fortune in the hands of the Ewing offspring: cousins John Ross Ewing (Henderson), the son of J.R. and ex-wife Sue Ellen (Gray), and Christopher Ewing (Metcalfe), the adopted son of Bobby. Brewster stars as Elena, who is involved in a love triangle with Christopher and John Ross. Gonzalo stars as Christopher's fiancée, Rebecca. And Strong stars as Ann, Bobby's wife."
