The Spotted Horse or British Spotted Pony
The Dalmatian horse or British Spotted pony, is a rare find with less than 200 being born in the United Kingdom each year. Until recently they have been believed to be a modern introduction of horse. However, it is now thought that these amazing animals have been around for at least 25,000 years.
In fact, Stone Age cave drawings depicting horses with spots were originally believed to have been an "interpretation" of reality or down to someone's imagination. These days it is increasingly thought they actually did exist. Evidence supports this with DNA taken from fossils found having genes shared with the mutation that causes the spotted coat.

British Spotted Pony
The British Spotted Pony has a coat that comes in many patterns. The most easily recognised is a "Leopard Spot" and it is this pattern that most if us would identify as a Dalmatian horse. The Leopard Spot has coloured spots on a white base coat.The Snowflake has white spots on a solid colour base coat.
Spotted Roans have a marbled patterned coat.
Blanketed Spot has a plain base coat with a white blanket over the quarters and back, normally there are spots on the blanket.

- Hi, they are being bred in the UK, although it can be quite a hit and miss process with some foals being born of solid colour.
