Damien Cripps Band, Australia

The Damien Cripps Band came into being in February 2005 after a series of bands that Damien had been in over the last 7 8 years. The bands preceding were Magnum Rush, Cool Bananas, Giftbox, Steel Rex and the Beautiful People and Filthy Bill. Damien had penned around 40 songs and decided to get to releasing them and touring under his own name.

Early in 2005 the band released their first single Pictures with Eric Wiedeman of 1927 adding vocals on the second verse and Robbie James of GANGgajang adding his magic guitar to the track. The Track received a fair amount of radio support (96fm Perth, Red FM, WA FM and coast FM (Mandurah). The band went on a fairly extensive tour in support of this single covering nearly the whole state of W.A. Kununurra to Albany in just four weeks. The shows were well received and the future looked bright.

The second single was released in Oct 2005 Angels in Darkness with a guest appearance from Cle from series one of Australian Idol. This was a laid back release as the bands finances were tied up in other matters. It did receive some radio support but with the heavier guitar base of the song was probably not as radio friendly as the first single.

Damien then joined nineteen 27 on a east coast tour and did an opening spot(support) and joined nineteen 27 on stage as a second guitarist and vocals . This did drum some Airplay for Angels in Darkness on 2ue in Sydney and the single sold out on the tour as did all The Damien Cripps Band Merchandise.

Damien returned to Perth and continued working on the Album. The band is also filming a documentary on being an undiscovered Australian Band and the struggle to make your mark against the wealth of the record company financed acts. Damien got booked in January to appear as a solo act on the Sembawang festival in Singapore and with a bit of interest from a European Promoter followed the visit to Singapore with a small run of shows in Europe. France, Spain & Portugal. The Band worked on the debut album with touring sound operator Kim Goodlet and Jon Villani (Northbridge Sound Studios).

Since then, the band has undergone some personnel changes, but the sound and the songs still remain true Damien Cripps..

The Band is currently performing gigs in and around Perth, to sell-out audiences. Damien also is an in demand solo artist, performing acoustic show throughout the region. Damien took his solo act to the Media Club in Vancouver, BC in 2010.

People of America may not know the name, but the Aussies sure do. Meet Damien Cripps and the Damien Cripps Band, the hottest indie group from the "Land Down Under", beautiful Australia. Damien Cripps Band is from Perth, Australia and their music is taking the local spots and internet like a tidal wave , making them a highly in demand band, sharing the stage with greats artists such as the late Billy Thorpe, George Thorogood, 1927. The sound is pure rock with so much energy, that one listen you can hear why they are quickly becoming an Aussie favorite.

The band came about in 2005 after Damien having written several songs, was wanting to share them with the world "I had played in several bands and wanted to start releasing the songs I had written." said Damien,"The bands I was playing in were not the forum to release them. So I set about forming my own band with guys who I thought played in a way that would best represent my sound" Early that year the band, with the help of Eric Wiederman of 1927 (a band Damien had played with) and some awesome guitar work by Robbie James of GANGgajang, they released "Pictures" . The song became a staple on several radio stations in the area, and set the band on a 4 week whirlwind tour of Western Australia.

"Pictures" has a wonderful back story to it that Damien related "Pictures really came about from being on the road so much...being away from my family. While away the main connection I had was the internet and Pictures being sent. The song just evolved from that experience."

"Pictures" was just the beginning. Since then, Damien and the band has been writing and cranking out non stop hits such as heavy guitar based "Angels in Darkness" ( which has a guest appearance from Cle from series one of Australian Idol),"Universe", and the Environmental statement "Meltdown".

All of their songs have been available for free downloads at one time or another and there are five tunes up for purchase on itunes at this writing. Many people question Damien and the band, why they would give their music away. " Alot of people question that move", laughed Damien, "But it is simple. We want the people to come to our shows, buy our songs, t-shirts etc because they love our music. Although we do music for a living we would prefer people to have our music for free. Sales will follow via word of mouth." This is working out great for the Band, for they are steadily booked with shows and the sales on iTunes is growing everyday.

What does the future hold for The Damien Cripps Band? They are working on a CD, keeping their eyes open for the perfect recording contract, and hoping to make a trip to the United States in 2010. This writer is personally working to get them here in Alabama. "Alabama? ... We would love to do a show or two in Alabama. We know the 'mates' there really know how to rock"

"Fast paced, short but sweet, Aussie pub-rock tune "Celebrity Slide" is musically well put together, and is the type of song you would expect to hear featured in a movie during a roadtrip scene. The guitar progressions are cool, the drumbeats are driving, and the chorus grows on you. You can tell a lot of time has gone into the recording, production and finishing touches. I personally like to enjoy lyrics, and I found the vocals are perhaps a little lost in the mix and it took a few goes to work out what the song was about. Damien's voice is that of a typical Aussie rock song, with strong gravelly tones, a true Jack Daniels Juggernaut. A song like no other, very unique. The toilet flush sound effect at the end of the song is an unusual, but quirky touch. Fans of Aussie Rock will enjoy this tune.
I hear the best of this local songwriter is yet to be introduced to iTunes, so stay tuned"
