Floating on Air with Dance Photographers and their Beautiful Pictures of Dancers

There is something magical about dance photography. The art of the dancer and the talent of the photographer meet to create a perfect moment frozen in time. It takes skill for a still image to convey the movement, joy and intensity that combine in dance. The best dance photographers, those that have this skill, show us not only the beauty of the human form but give us a glimpse of the mood of the dance.

The dance photography here ranges from the exuberance of a young woman leaping for joy in a gauze dress to the focus of the ballet dancer, and from the passion of tango and flamenco dancers to the glamour of a perfect ballroom dance partnership. Find too the color and poise of Irish dance and the enchantment of belly dancers.

While you will see a couple of classic images and the much-loved ballet shoes poses among these dance posters, my aim is to introduce you too to new styles of dance photography.

I had the wonderful pleaure to see the fabulous Alvin Ailey Dancers perform at the City College auditorium while I was attending school in NYC in the late 1970's....very inspiring lens that brought back a lot of fond memories.

Awesome shots! This is one of the most difficult job in photography. Dance photography requires good timing with an art to make shots look great. Also, I love those vintage photo backgrounds used on black and white posters.

I've always loved to dance... and learned ballet at school. Now, my favorite type of dance to watch is Flamenco, then Tango as for those I love to dance, well, I'll tell you after back pain has gone, lol.
  • Sylvestermouse Jan 20, 2011 @ 10:56 am | delete
These are all beautiful posters! I love to watch ballet, but I truly enjoy the passion of the Tango. Ballroom is probably my favorite and you simple can't beat Ginger and Fred, but I have to admit, I like the romantic idea of the married couple dancing together (Frank & Yolanda). She might not be quite as pretty as Ginger, but I love the expressions of love when they dance. In my opinion, that love makes them both more beautiful!
