Hallmark Hall of Fame's To Dance With The White Dog

Bittersweet. That is what I would call Hallmark Hall of Fame's 1993 made-for-television movie, To Dance With The White Dog.

When you have been married for more than fifty years, the departure of one member of the union is definitely going to leave a big gap. Sam Peek, played by Hume Cronyn, seems to move along when his wife departs our world, but the arrival and subsequent adoption of 'the white dog' helps him to fill the absence left by his wife Cora, played by Jessica Tandy.

To Dance With The White Dog was an award-winning Hallmark movie. Hume Cronyn won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Special and the movie was nominated for a further eight Emmys.

Amazon Description of To Dance With A White Dog

To Dance With The White Dog
"Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy play Sam and Cora Peek, still dancing cheek to cheek as they celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by friends and three generations of family. But it will be the final celebration of their love. Shortly thereafter, a heart attack takes Sam's beloved Cora away. Alone now and struggling with his own ailing health, Sam lives on under the watchful eyes of his overproctective children. His spirit begins to fade-until the sudden appearance of a mysterious white dog reawakens him to the joys of life, and shows him the power of his wife's undying love."

To Dance With The White Dog Recommendation

One of the most moving movie reviews I have seen.

"To Dance With The White Dog is one of my favorite movies ever. What makes this movie so poignant is that JESSICA TANDY AND HUME CRONYN WERE MARRIED FOR FIFTY PLUS YEARS just like the characters and the year this was released Jessica Tandy died of cancer." ~ Susan

A Hallmark Hall of Fame fan favourite.

Amazon customer reviews of To Dance With A White Dog include comments about how touching the story is. Marsha R. Kelsey ordered it for her mother on Mother's Day and they watched it together and found it very meaningful, on a number of levels.

Everyone praised Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, calling them words like sincere and deep. However, this movie also stars a beautiful white dog that dog lovers will love.

I loved Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, they had a loving and enduring marriage for many years, which is partly what made the movie so touching. One of the best Hallmark stories ever.
