Dance Dance Revolution (DDR)
Ever been walking through the mall, pass the arcade, and seen people swarming around one particular video game? If you walked over, you would discover everyone standing around watching someone dancing his or her pants off! Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) is a game developed in Japan by Konami and it has taken the world by storm.
In 2000, Dance Dance Revolution USA hit the US arcades, showing us what we have been missing. And if you've been too afraid to get up in front of people in the arcade at the mall, now you can get your groove on in the privacy of your own home on a Dance Dance Revolution Pad.
Dance Dance Revolution is a dancing game in the true sense of the term. Using a Dance Dance Revolution Pad, you control the game with your feet. Before the dancing begins, you choose your preferred level of difficulty (Basic/Light/Beginner;Trick?Standard?Difficult;Maniac/Heavy/Expert)and the music to suit your dancing style.
You dance by stepping on four directional buttons on the DDR dance pad (arrows representing up, down, left, right) in time with onscreen cues. Once a moving arrow reaches the stationary row of arrows at the top of the screen, you step on the corresponding arrow on the DDR dance pad. Successfully hitting the arrows in time with the music fills the "Dance Gauge", also called the "Groove Radar". If you miss too many steps and deplete the Dance Gauge, you dance session is over. If you are victorious with your hip moves, you will be taken to the results screen which will rate your performance with a letter grade and score and then you can dance some more.

DDR Music
Dance Dance Revolution has been released on PlayStation, Play Station 2, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. There are many styles of Dance Dance Revolution Pads to choose from for each gaming system. Though DDR home console versions provide a more limited selection of songs than the arcade versions you can still dance your socks off.The bulk of the game's music is ultrafluffy techno-pop, though it touches on a number of different varieties of dance music, including Latin and reggae. There are many techno covers of pretty popular songs: "Smoke on the Water","Like a Virgin", "Can't Stop Fallin' in Love", and "Flashdance" (what dancing game wouldn't be complete without it). "Twilight Zone Extended Club Mix" when played in Maniac Mode makes your feet go crazy, and you feel at times you cannot keep up, but is incredibly fun.
