Dancing Cowgirl Design on Squidoo

Who is Dancing Cowgirl Design? Just a girl.

Dancing Cowgirl Design is the shortest name I could come up with that describes some of what I do.

You are at the right page to read all about me, the things I love, the people I love and the things I love to do.

Now I can add that I love to write on Squidoo. I've been writing here a little over three months and have much more to come. I hope you have a chance to visit all of my articles that may be of interest to you.

Now I've got to get typing, my thoughts are running faster than pigs to a corn trough.

BET YOU GUESSED

If a picture speaks a thousand words, my intro picture my have hinted to the fact that, I live in Texas. I dance and have a whole lot of Cowgirl in me.
And if you noticed, I'm shorter than my dance partner. ha ha ha . Short is ok, I don't have as far to fall.

I spent the first 35 years of my life in Houston and for the last 16 years I've been living on a farm/ranch, what ever you want to call 87 acres, in Central Texas.

This is where my love for animals continues to grow. From funny farm animals to some pretty wild Wildlife, I have some stories to tell.

Welcome, You Are Here!

WHY I'M WRITING INSTEAD OF DOING

Around Thanksgiving of 2010, my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. Even though he encouraged me to continue on with what I do outside of the house, I've been staying close. He is about to begin his second round of treatments September 2011 for some problems that have come back.

( Added)
We are now preparing for a second surgery December 7th,

Writing stories here about many of the good things in my life has helped me balance the bad things going on right now.

If We Make It Through December

This song has always held a special place in my heart and especially during hard times in my life. When money is tight or things just don't seem to go right.

This December like the last, with two cancer surgeries a year apart, this song will be there for me. I hope everything will be alright.

THE COWGIRL IN ME

I was born a Cowgirl and in one way or another have remained a Cowgirl. I can not remember a time when I was not surrounded by something to do with a Western Lifestyle. My grandparents grew up with horses as their only means of transportation. They later turned that necessity into a passion and made an unforgettable impact on my life.

Please enjoy my articles about Cowboys, Cowgirls, Rodeos, Trailrides and all things western that have been a part of my life for a very long time.

This is a photo of me Barrel Racing on my horse Little John in 1967, so that would make me an old Cowgirl with lots of things to talk about.

Yep, there's a trophy shelf from years of Rodeo and Horse Shows.

The rodeo and western theme runs throughout my life.

URBAN COWBOY : THE MOVIE AND ME

Movie Star For A Moment

Well yes, for a second or two. When production of the movie Urban Cowboy came to the Houston area, word got around and next thing you know, there I am. At first I thought it was going to be a movie about Rodeo. It was in the Urban Cowboy way. The movie follows the everyday life of a man named Bud, played by John Travolta, while he tries to become champion in a mechanical bull riding contest held inside of a Texas dance hall.

I signed up as an extra and did make it to the the big screen. My grandfather and some other rodeo friends are also seen in the movie.

Decorating To Please Everyone

I am happy to have everyone in my house pleased with their personal space so there is not one particular style here.

The shared spaces tend to get rearranged and redecorated often. I have tons of collectible items that I like to see, so I rotate things around. Many pictures of those things weave throughout my lenses. My husband is a hunter and has plenty of collections as well. Most of his mount to the wall.

Decorating Rodeo, Hunting and Fishing Christmas Trees was the easy part.

Decorating with my toys ( Kid Stuff ), like a Circus Wagon and Carousel Horses is the fun part.

Most of the toys around here are fun for everyone, but some toys require some big boys for moving. We have plenty of Big Toys that seem to last forever.

I plan on some how to lenses as I go along, but for now, enjoy the pictures and stories.

DANCING COWGIRL DESIGN - THE STORE

I was taught to make do with what I have and make the best of it. Using that wisdom from my grandmother and some stuff, I started crafting.

That has led me to have a very cool craft room overstuffed with new materials and things to re-purpose. I have had my hands in many projects.

I have enjoyed helping my kids and others to learn crafts and make projects to enter in 4-H and County Fair Competitions. Participation along with them in the Adult Categories has strengthened my knowledge and abilities in crafting and design.

For sometime now, I have had a store at Zazzle where my artwork is turned into product lines.

I also have a Dancing Cowgirl Design Store page on Squidoo. Visit for a look at some of the things I do. This page will soon have a link to handmade items that I have available for sale.

Rodeo Days in Plastic Canvas was inspired by my rodeo life and designed using the skills I learned from building my Doll House from plastic canvas.

Soon, I will be showing the basics of plastic canvas and how to make your own designs.

Designing And Making Coasters And Tissue Boxes Based On My Rodeo Pictures

Didn't Seem To Be Enough, So.......

I went on to build coasters in the shape of belt buckles and a coaster holder.

That was fun, so I went ahead and built a Rodeo arena.

The bucking chutes hold sets with a napkin and cutlery tucked into a blue jean pocket made from plastic canvas. The opposite end bucking chutes hold coasters. Salt and pepper shakers and a toothpick holder are disguised as barrel racing barrels. The Arena section is large and holds custom place mats and it has an announcer stand overlooking everything.

Dressing The Part

Of Dancing Cowgirl Design

I try to make most of my dancing outfits. Some things are from scratch and some are re-fashioned from something close to what I want.

Competition allows for lots of bling. I use crystals on my costumes and make the custom jewelry to match. Some dances call for different styles so I can have anything from a cheeky cha cha dress, a flowing waltz gown or a Two-Step and Swing dress that will spin like a top. It sure is fun to dress up!

When I need to dress up a little, but not necessarily a costume, I shop, but mostly online.

This is what i have been looking into.

I'm An Angel

The folks from higher up ( Squidoo H.Q.) appoint Squid Angels.

I now have the honor of being able to Bless lenses written by my fellow Squids. I have blessed several so far and continue looking for and reading more lenses that, in my opinion, deserve a Blessing from a Squid Angel.

I have had many Blessing given to my lenses and am learning more from what Squid Angels before me feel like are worthy lenses.

Giant Squid Too

I received my Super Squid - Giant Squid squid status after completing 25 lenses.

I have over 50 lenses now and have received my points for that.

Yeeee Hawwww

I Love Squidoo

I new Squidoo was a perfect place for me to set down and talk a while when I noticed the Squid theme throughout the site.

One of my favorite Cowgirls is a Squid of sorts. Actually she is a squirrel that lives underwater and is friends with Sponge Bob Square Pants

Sandy Cheeks, I guess she got that name from setting on the ocean floor. Sandy claims to be a a Cowgirl from Amarillo, Texas.

Too many cartoons with the grand kids... Oh well.

Looks like that Ropes and Ties up things about Dancing Cowgirl Design.
