I recall, back to 1980, when I collected dandelions from the meadow by the house and made wine. Ugh. Bitter. I also recall my father tasting it and adding sugar to the mix. I don't think the sugar helped. I reminded him of it the other day and he said "I did not"... so, the memory ends here. Cheers!

Dandelion salad is still very popular in our country. Unfortunately every year is harder to find unpolluted herbs. I heard about dandelion wine too, but never had a chance to try it.

Never heard of Dandelion recipes before, I thought you couldn't eat them... Interesting lens~

I'm excited to try some of these Dandelion recipes! I once made Dandelion wine with my gandfather - I'm not a wine drinker myself but everyone else seemed to get a kick out of it.

I didn't know that you could eat dandelions. My rabbit loves them, but I'd never considered them as part of a salad. What about Dandelion and Burdock in the drinks section?

When I was little, I loved my grandmother, but hated her creamed dandelion. She would go out in the big back yard, pick them, prepare them, and make the dish. My tastes have evolved since then, and I wish she were here to make it for me. This has inspired me to try making it myself. Thanks!

I love dandelions and it is so sensible to use them as food when they are so prolific. Blessed by a squid angel.

My mother often cooked with dandelions. That is, she used the greens in salads and made wine from the yellow flower part.
  • emmalarkins Sep 8, 2010 @ 2:20 pm | delete
I first thought the greens a bit bitter, but they've grown on me. Plus they're super healthy!

Dandelion greens, first thing in the springtime, are delicious. Thanks for all the leads to dandelion cooking sites.

I can remember picking dandelion greens as a young child. Both of my parents knew how to cook and season them very well. They were yummy!
  • dannystaple Apr 7, 2009 @ 3:28 am | delete
I remember dandelion greens are a little like rocket. Dandelion petals were really bitter though. I have not eaten them in years - but perhaps we can make use of them.

Wilted dandelion greens , red onion , thinly sliced avocado , and sweet purple grapes make a marvelous salad. Found this at Bea Kunz' blog!

    Hello!
Nice lens!! I like the dandelion photos!
  • Euryale Apr 1, 2008 @ 11:56 pm | delete
We've got several big patches where I encourage them, but in other areas of the yard, we weed them to keep them out of the veggies.
  • KimGiancaterino Apr 1, 2008 @ 8:51 pm | delete
I love this lens! We no longer have a lawn or dandelions, but I'm sure I can get some from my neighbors.
