NO! STOP! NOT THE MING DYNASTY RUG!
Tip #1 - Toy Time
Woooo Toys!
Keep in mind that puppies go through a teething phase where they must chew to help their adult teeth come in. This guide will help your puppy to stop chewing up your whole house!1.Toys, toys, toys! Make sure your puppy has some really good teething toys. Also make sure these toys are safe. A lot of people tend to give puppies soft toys or stuffed animals. This can be bad as their teething continues they will rip these toys to shreds. Not only will you have a house full of fluff you'll have a puppy who may have ingested a plastic eye or squeaker. Make sure you get hard nylon bones for them to chew on or puppy teething rings. Keep only 3 toys out at a time and rotate 1 toy with a new toy every day to keep their interest. Never give puppies raw hide. I don't even give my adult dogs raw hide. Raw hide can become soft quickly in dogs mouth and has a tendency to get caught in their intestines. Also rawhide, especially colored rawhide, can leave some nasty stains on your carpet. Get your puppy to stop chewing on your furniture by teaching him what he can chew on.
The number 1 reason dogs are put up for adoption is lack of training. Training a puppy is essential to living a long happy life with your dog. To learn more about much needed dog training visit us HERE.
These Are The Toys I used!
Verity is key
Get your puppy a verity of toys and switch them up to stop boredom chewing.
Firehouse dog toys... super tough but still squishy wont fill your house with fuzz in 10 minutes.
Puppy kong - Kongs have been around forever... I like to fill them with dog food and peanut butter with a little water and stick them in the freezer... also will help with teething pain
Galileo Bone- alright they look a little weird and I've seen so many shapes of dog bones it just seems they are running out of ideas but for some reason my puppy loves this bone more then his normal nyla bone.... strange but it works!

Tip #2 - Tastes Like Burning!
Bitter Ickyness
2.Bitter Spray. There are several products on the market now that you can spray on things you don't want your dog to chew on. These products have an awful taste to them and your dog will not want to chew on stuff you've sprayed this on. There are some downfalls to products like this though. For one thing it can get into the air. I had one product that when I sprayed it anywhere I'd be tasting it in my nose and mouth for several hours afterwords. Also if you happen to touch anything you've sprayed this stuff on and then touch your mouth you'll get a nasty shock. I only use this product on electrical cords. I suggest taking your puppy with you to the pet store so you can see if he will dislike the product. My dog actually thought the first product I bought tasted good but the second one I bought was a winner and I got my puppy to stop chewing on electrical cords. The number 1 reason dogs are put up for adoption is lack of training. No Chew Sprays
Warning: Do NOT Spray Near Your Face!
I've tried a few of these... and these are the ones that actually work... Grate Danes are notorious for eating everything and sometimes it can be hard to find stuff that doesn't taste good to them.

Tip #3 - A Sleeping Dog Dosn't Chew
Sleep Time!
3.Ware puppy out! Puppies have a lot of energy. Most of the time they have more energy then you do. This can be difficult because you can't ware out your puppy and teach your puppy to stop chewing if you are worn out. Luckily right around the time your puppy starts teething is when he/she can start walking on a leash. I tie the leash to my waste and where I go, puppy must follow. This also helps with training your dog to heel. It can be inconvenient at first but he will eventually get the idea and get out of the way when you move around. This exercise is good on many levels. Not only can you keep an eye on what your puppy is doing but he learns that you are the leader and he must follow you or get out of your way! Imagine how much running around the house you do. If you let your puppy roam free while your cooking dinner or picking up after the kids who knows what kind of trouble he could get into! By leashing him to you he gets around as much as you do in a positive way.The number 1 reason dogs are put up for adoption is lack of training. Tip #4 - Doggy Watch
Hey! What are you doing in there!
4.Be on puppy watch. I don't let my dogs out of my sight until they are at least a year and a half old. I use the leash command in the house or he/she is gated in the room with me when I am watching TV/on the computer. Keeping a constant watch on your puppy will force your puppy to stop chewing. As soon as you see him going for something he shouldn't be tell him a firm "No" and redirect him/her to a good toy. Once he/she is engaged in the toy rather then your chair legs make sure to give lots of praise and even reward with some play time. Two things I will note about dog training in general here. Never yell at your dog in anger. They will become confused and some times more excitable. This will be taking a step backwards. Never play aggressive games with your dog that over excite them. Such as tug of war. Tug of war will increase your puppies aggressive excitability and you'll never get your puppy to stop chewing. The number 1 reason dogs are put up for adoption is lack of training. Tip #5 - The Treadmill
Fitness Freak Dog!
5.Last but not least. The treadmill. I love my dog's treadmill a lot! Getting your puppy to stop chewing is all about keeping him/her occupied and wore out. Teaching a dog to walk on a treadmill is extremely easy if you don't give up. Start by walking the dog onto the treadmill a few times until they are comfortable standing on it and getting off of it. Takes a good 10-15 times. You may treat them when they get on it to give positive association to the treadmill. The next day repeat until you can do it with out complaint from your dog. Every dog is different and it may take longer/shorter just like with teaching puppy to stop chewing. I taught my Great Dane to walk in 1 day. Next step is turning the treadmill on. This is where it gets scary for most dog owners. Keep in mind you need the treadmill at the lowest speed. If your dog is normal he/she will freak out. Tug on the leash and generally throw a fit. Keep calm and understand this is normal. You must not give in though. If they jump off you must pull them on again. It may seems cruel but if you back down they will think they can keep up that behavior and get out of the training. I start with 5 minutes. Once they master that for a few days I keep upping the time and speed. My Grate Dane gets bored with the low speeds and wont stay on unless hes at a good jogging pace. As I said before if you want to get your puppy to stop chewing you must ware him out!
Getting your puppy to stop chewing can be a daunting task but you must keep at it. If you don't get your puppy to stop chewing think of all the money you will be wasting on replacing things in your home. It's worth the work and some of these tips can even help you solve other dog problems such as barking, jumping, and generally acting like a nut case!
