The Dangers of Cell Phone Usage: Worldwide Councils Agree

Parent groups, scientists and some doctors have been warning others for the past 5 years of potential dangers of cell phone use - especially in children and teens.

The complication and dangers of cell phones stem from radio frequency radiation.

Recently the Toronto Department of Public Health (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), released a warning to parents that teenagers and young children should limit their use of cell phones due to the dangerous side effects and potential health risks.

This advisory is the very first of its kind in Canada. (source: CBC News July 12, 2008)

The safety rule of thumb is that children under the age of 8 should only ever use a cell phone in an emergency. Teenagers should limit calls to less than 10 minutes. Shorter still if cell phone use is in rural or low-bar service areas.

As you'll see in the brief articles and links below cell phone danger reports are becoming more common worldwide and each study points to the same risk - brain tumors.

Don't Dismiss this as HYPE

Studies are just surfacing now as cell phone use hadn't become widespread until the late 90s and it takes at least 10 years for tumors and cancers that we're talking about here (from cell phone usage) to show up.

These concerns are akin to the dangers of smoking. Harmful effects are not immediate, but there is most certainly an epidemic ahead and it revolves around our children!

Countries Around the World Publishing Health Reports...

...on the dangers of cell phone use.

Research online for just a few minutes and you can find references to studies performed around the world that confirm the potential health risks and dangers associated with cell phone use -- especially in children and teens.

Here are just a few:

A Swedish study has found a "consistent pattern of increased risk for glioma and acoustic neuroma after..." human cells have been exposed to cell phone radiation for "...ten years."

Swedish author Lennart Hardell has been recorded to believe that a 10 year tumor latency is the minimum exposure. Since cell phones have become most common in the last 4 years the study, as well as many others are continuing.

In Finland a research group has reported (in collaboration and a joint initiative with Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the U.K.) that elevated risks for brain tumors increase with increased exposure and usage of cell-phones.

The BioInitiative Report

This report (published in August, 2007), was researched, tested, documented and authored by a working, international group of researchers, scientists and public health professionals.

Serious concerns were raised during the study regarding the dangers of cell phone usage. Primary concerns were about the regulated limits of EMF allowable from power lines, cell phones, etc. The conclusion from the group is that existing standards are completely inadequate to protect public health and safety.

  • The report and research also evidenced the danger of cell phone usage regarding:

  • Transcriptomic and Proteomic Research - Gene and Protein Expression

  • Genotoxic Effects - RFR and ELF DNA Damage

  • Stress Response (Stress Proteins)

  • Effect on Immune Function

  • Effect on Neurology and Behavior

  • Brain Tumors and Acoustic Neuromas

  • Childhood Cancers (Leukemia)

  • Magnetic Field Exposure affects melatonin production (is your child having trouble sleeping lately?); Alzheimer's Disease (later in life) and breast cancer (can show up at any time)

  • Breast Cancer (melatonin links in laboratory and cell studies)

  • Disruption by the Modulating Signal

Many more studies and reports are being released every month so expect more references coming soon.

Keep Your Children Safe from The Dangers of Cell Phones

Top Seven (7) Quick, Easy and/or Inexpensive Tips

  1. Use the speakerphone function whenever possible.

  2. Instruct children and teens to keep their cell phones at least two feet away from them whenever possible.

  3. Radiation can and will leech into your body even when your phone is in your pocket, clipped to a belt, or in a handbag at your side.

  4. Strong signal bars on your phone during use means that you are close to a cell phone tower. The stronger the signal, the less power your phone has to use to maintain the connection - therefore the safer it is to use.

  5. As in a recent study released in Israel, frequent use of a cell phone with weak signals pose the largest risk.

  6. Use a landline whenever possible.

Helpful Product Under $10 to Keep Teens and Children Safe

Dr. Ronald B. Herberman (director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute) has issued a warning about the dangers of cell phone use - especially of children.

Herberman states that people should take action now and has been quoted as saying, "...we shouldn't wait for a definitive study to come out, but err on the side of being safe rather than sorry later."
