I fell in love with Danny Key when I was 7 years old.
I was home sick from school with the chicken pox.
I was so miserable mom allowed me to watch TV in the middle of the day.
Something she would normally NEVER let me do.
The show was Hans Christian Anderson Staring Danny Kaye, I was memorized!

Every year when I watch White Christmas it amazes me that Danny Kaye was not the first choice to play Phil Davis, He wasn't even the second choice!

Fred Astaire was the first choice to play the role, but declined the project after reading the script.
Donald O'Connor was the second choice but also had to turn down the role due to illness.

I am glad they passed.

Now I can't imagine anyone other then Danny Kaye playing the part.

I've never met him and yet his talent and his wit have helped me through many difficult moments. I try to learn about him as much as I can because his personality fascinates me and the more I know the more I like him. He was a complicated person but, at the same time, a loyal friend and someone who came through when it mattered. He's my hero. A very human hero and I love him all the more for this.
