Danum Valley: The Remaining Rain Forests in Borneo

The Danum Valley in Borneo is the largest of the remaining patches of lowland dipercarp forest in Sabah, Malaysia. This conservation area is protected from logging and hunting which have devastated much of the rest of the rainforests of Borneo.

Dabum Valley still occupies 438 square kilometres and is an excellent place to see birds, but also orangutans, gibbons, other primates, wild cats, deer, butterflies and possibly Borneo Pygmy Elephant.

Places to Stay in The Danum Valley

Borneo Rainforest Lodge

There is only one lodge in the Danum Valley: the Borneo Rainforest Lodge although The Executive hotel outside the conservation area is a boring, but comfortable Borneo business hotel, which serves as a good place to stay before or after enering the Rainforest. The Borneo Rainforest Lodge is one of the best jungle lodges I have ever stayed in: The rustic charm of stilted huts with balconies looking into the jungle raised walkways between the huts and a fantastic bar and restaurant with more views. Wild orangutans were swinging around nearby high up in the trees and huge butterflies fluttered past as we sat in the bar. Regular treks and drives into the jungle were organized and more canopy walkways to negotiate. A splendid place to stay.

This lens is awesome. I love it. I am going to tell my editors on my Thai News website to write something about this lens and probably feature it.

I will comment here again once we do.

    Great Work

This is awesome! Definitely looks like a place my son would love to visit. Perhaps we can take him for his college graduation gift. (We went to Rome for his high school graduation). I love that picture that shows the big rain drops. All of your pictures are beautiful!
