I'm sorry to hear you had a traumatic birth. From the words you've used here, though, it sounds to me like you're giving this woman too much power. If she's interfering to the level that she's causing problems to arise then she has the wrong idea about biodynamic birth and shouldn't be involved in homebirths. There's very little that a true midwife has to *do* during a birth. Her role is to use her experience to determine whether any complications arise, provide advice regarding transfer to hospital in such a case, and then follow the decisions of the birthing mother. If the midwife doesn't have sufficient experience to identify a problem (and even if she does have decades of experience) then the safest option is to trust the instincts of the mother and not interfere unless the mother feels that she needs specific assistance.

Lovely lensography! a homebirth, how cool! I can't wait to read the story unless it is on here already. I will go look after I write this comment. I tried to do homebirth with my last child but it did not go well because i had a midwife who did not know what she was doing and she almost killed me and my baby. Enjoy your baby!

It's been fun getting to know you a bit from this lensography. When I saw your comment on one of my lenses, I thought, hmm, I don't think I've "met" this squid yet. Then I visited your profile and was like, HOW have I missed this Giant Squid till now? Anyhow, better late than never. Nice to meet you! I look forward to perusing more of your lenses.

Hey Daoine, great to read your lensography - I got to your lens as I was going through Kim's Angel Blessed lenses. Congratulations on your baby boy and I commend you with your home birth. Recently, in June '09, my best friend's wife delivered a baby girl at home too and it was an amazing experience. I look forward to seeing that lens of your too. All the best! Aj :)

I can imagine Canada is a complex country - I'm never sure whether to think of it as influenced more by the US, England, or France. I suppose it depends on the various regions within Canada. Would love to visit one day.

Hey Daoine, living in Canada and being so close to the states, spelling is a big issue for me. I'm constantly thinking, should I add the "u" or shouldn't I?
