Kangaroo's, Wallabies, Koala's in Darling harbour, Sydney, Australia.

Having a ball in, Darling harbour on my first trip to Sydney in Australia. Having spent most of my life on big farms in Africa where often some of nature's most beautiful animals, suddenly put in an appearance. Driving from Canberra to Sydney as a passenger, I spend my whole time trying to look for animals in the wild, especially Kangaroo and Koala, but nary a one did I see and I never saw any in Canberra either. I was always met with the answer that it was too hot at the time and we would look when it was cooler, which somehow we never managed to do. I was whining big time. I mean what is the point of seeing Australia if you do not see some of their most iconic animals?
Anyway here we were in Darling harbour and I was still whining. Eventually, my brother and sister in law promised me, that they would take me to see some and take me they did. I loved it and was in my element. So if ever you are wondering what to do in Sydney, why not go to their Animal world in Darling harbour? I guarantee, you will love it there. Herewith a sneak preview of what I saw, beautiful.

A Koala

Koala

Now is that not, absolutely adorable? It's just that for me the Koala, quite simply, is one of my favourite animals. Now here I was in an open air setting at the animal world almost within touching distance of them, magic. I was snapping picture after picture with my camera of them. As it turns out the rangers in the complex will take a picture of you with the Koala, either with your own camera or with one of theirs. Of course they also give a talk on their habits (the Koala's that is) and a bit about their lifestyle. Basically, they eat and they sleep and are very slow moving animals. Sounds like me. Of course there is everything in this complex, from snakes, to spiders, to birds, but I concentrated on iconic Australian animals. Well for me anyway. Following are some photographs I took. Enjoy.

Jewelsofawe says:

I think it is. Isn't it?

bethd821 says:

It is one of the most adorable bears in the world. I don't care if they're not a bear. If they're not a bear, why are they called Koala BEARS?

Spook says:

I always used to think so as well. So there you have it.

OhMe says:

I always thought the Koala was a bear

I'm not sure

vallain says:

I'm sure it isn't a bear. I got neck strain walking through the eucalyptus woods looking for koalas in the wild. Never saw any there.

Michelle1959 says:

I could be mixed up badly here, but I don't think it is - it was a long time ago that I read somewhere that they were more closely related to another species - but I can't remember that either.... learning curve going on here....

skiesgreen says:

Koalas are marsupials and they are closely related to wombats. I

aj2008 says:

All the photographs that I personally have taken have been with this great camera. Also has a video module so one can take videos as well. Highly recommended and easy to handle and look after.
