About Darrin
Darrin Dewitt Henson had a lead role in Sony Screen Gems STOMP THE YARD last year. STOMP THE YARD opened #1 at the box office, taking in 21 million its first weekend. Darrin plays Grant, the lead stepper of Mu Gamma, the 7-year step champions. Darrin was also in the HBO Film LIFE SUPPORT, also starring Queen Latiffah, which debuted March 10th, 2007. In THE SALON starring Vivica A. Fox, Darrin plays the hotshot attorney. THE SALON is now available on DVD. Darrin also was in the movie THE LAST STAND, with Guy Tory and Anthony Anderson, where he plays the role of a comedian who goes by the name of TD. In July 2007, the thriller, APRIL FOOLS was released and Darrin plays Detective Ward.Since his transition from television to the big screen was such a big success, Darrin is now receiving several film offers. In March 2007, Darrin finished filming the Fox film, A GOOD MAN IS HARD TO FIND, which is based on the stage play by Rev. David Payton. Darrin portrays the lead role of Clarence alongside Hill Harper, Darius McCrary, Golden Brooks and Deborah Cox. He also wrapped on THE EXPRESS, in June 2007, which is based on the incredible true story that follows the inspirational life of college football hero Ernie Davis, the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy. Darrin stars as Jim Brown along with Dennis Quaid, Charles Dutton, Rob Brown and Omar Benson Miller. The expected release date for THE EXPRESS is October 3, 2008. He is currently filming TEKKEN and Darrin plays the role of Raven.
Henson played Lem Van Adams on the hit Television series Soul Food for five seasons. Henson gave a compelling performance of a street hustler turned husband, father and businessman. His character struggled to balance a drama-free life embodying loyalty to his family with an unstable past life, which included familial dysfunction and repeated prison stays. Depicting Lem was no difficult task for Henson because he believes there's a little Lem in every brother. In Henson's words: "We all want to fight through adversities and feed our families."
When Soul Food wrapped, Henson increased his repertoire by showing off his directing skills in the movie Violation. Starring Malik Yoba (New York Undercover) and Cynda Williams (Dorothy Dandridge Story and Mo Better Blues). Violation depicts two Gulf War veterans whose relationship may be compromised by their opposing outlooks on war.
As an incomparable choreographer whose dance abilities has blessed such artists as Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and N-Sync, Henson got his start with the late legendary hip hop DJ, Scott La Rock at age 14, when he joined La Rock's Vermont school tour.
Henson's most recognizable dance routine by far is N-Sync's Bye, Bye, Bye. His video, Darrin's Dance Grooves, has also proven successful and he looks forward to starting production on a movie version in the future.
Henson is also trying to get more involved in the community. Darrin wants to inform everyone that working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle doesn't have to be a chore. It can in fact be lots of fun! Most people don't consider `dance' to be an excellent form of exercise. Along with changing their eating habits, dancing can definitely be the remedy to loosing weight and getting in shape. Darrin wants to assist people in achieving their goal by showing them that they can "Get in the Groove and into Shape". He wants to share this information with as many people as he can and be instrumental in getting them to "livet" as opposed to "diet".
Much more than just a talented actor and choreographer, Henson is a true soldier in the entertainment game. He has extended his tenure in a very difficult industry by drawing on his talents to reinvent himself time and again. Henson will be doing this for years to come because he is talented, and he has the temperament for it. He balances life and industry with ease by valuing his privacy, trusting his abilities and remaining humble in his success.
The Express based on the incredible true story which follows the inspirational life of college football hero Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy.
