I always wondered (prior to the cinematic release of Episodes I to III) what he was like growing up. Was he an evil little prick? Apparently not. But we do find out how he spirals out of control. He was manipulated. Controlled. And ultimately directed to become the right hand man of possibly the most conniving and vile man in the (far, far away) galaxy.
