Data Recovery

Data loss is very annoying. Sometimes it happens because your computer has been hit with a very nasty virus, other times it's because you accidently pressed the delete button, and sometimes its because of compatibility issues with the hardware in your computer. No matter what the cause, data loss can cost you your favorite memories, frustration, and (if you loose you presentation or spread sheet) a lot of time and possibly money. Sometimes, if it is severe enough, it can even make your computer impossible to use. The good news is that there is software out there that can recover your system.

Data Recovery Software

As you can probably guess, data recovery software recovers lost data on your computer. This is possible because of the way your computer (or a virus) deletes files. When a file is deleted, it is not completely removed from your hard drive. What happens is that a link in the system registry is removed, so that your operating system "forgets" that there's a file in that particular spot, allowing you to rewrite it with something else. Data Recovery software can then find these "lost" files and reestablish all the necessary links within your system which allow you to see and use the file.

Top Data Recovery Programs

Below I have tested and reviewed some of the top Data Recovery Software.

Data Recovery Pro

type=textData Recovery Pro is definitely on of the top data recovery programs out there. The customer support is very competent. The user interface is well laid out and intuitive, allowing you to find all the functions quickly and making this program easy to use. The scanning is relatively quick. Usually programs like this can't recover all of your files, and this is no exception, however it still is able to recover more than just about all the other programs. This is also a pretty good program. It performs scans quickly and does a good job of finding and recovering a lot of lost programs. It has a pretty simple user interface and good tech suppport. Overall it's a good program if you want to recover files that have deleted by accident, due to some sort of software malfunction or power outage. If you lost data because of something like a corrupt hard drive, however, this program tends to crash but you can still use it in this situation if you change the settings to avoid scanning the corrupt section of the hard drive.

In terms of feature set and simlicity of use, this is the most loaded program. It can do absolutely everything. I would recommend this to anyone who is experiencing the Blue Screen of Death error or anything else of that nature. However, due to the price, I wouldn't reccomend it for something less serious.

How to Choose a Data Recovery Program

type=textThere is a lot different Data Recovery software, some are more expansive than others, some are good, some are bad. That is why it is important to do research before you decide which data recovery program you'll get. Here are some pointers on what to look for in good Data Recovery Software:

  • A good data recovery program should be able to recover anything; a memory card, a cd, a dvd, a hard drive, a flash drive, etc...

  • Should be able to recover the program no matter what the cause for its loss: virus, power outage, deleted by accident, etc..

  • It should perform the scan quickly and effectively.

  • It should be easy to use. The user interface should be intuitive and the program should have good customer support.
