Lost Data to Rescue

We all know how hard it can be to recover lost work, when we have accidentally deleted important files, or we had a disk that has gone bad.

Is it worth buying a data recovery software or we can use a free application?

Almost all popular data recovery utilities either educate users through website or have instated protection methods to ensure that your lost data shouldn't be lost forever by using them. They are extremely composite applications that require considerable development investment, and are unlikely to be free, or even inexpensive. Most professionally designed data recovery utilities will cost up to $179 or more.

As there is no guarantee provided with a free software, it will not be a good idea in risking important data by using a free data recovery software.

Signs of Physical Damage

Can I recover on my own?

It's true that using a data recovery software you will be able to recover your data, what you must know that many causes of data loss cannot be fixed through a software alone. No matter what you do, no application ever will be able to recover data when there is a physical damage to the storage media itself (such as a hard drive head crash, drive making clicking sound, or drive not getting detected in the BIOS of your PC).

Additionally, to recover data using software it is imperative to access the data stored on a hard drive, removable drive or any other storage media. To avoid any permanent data loss it is best that we should stop accessing the media through operating system for any reasons and should only use the recovery software to access data.

If the loss of data is due to physical damage, we should immediately stop using the drive further, even we should not boot our PC to check continuously in an attempt to get it detected by the BIOS of the PC. If you are noticing a physical damage behaviour, instead using a software you should immediately seek help from professional data recovery services company.

Keeping these things in mind, it will be safe to use a data recovery software and you would be able to get what you had lost.

Recovering Data from Windows

Finding Needle in a Haystick

Remo Recover Windows - Main ScreenFor evaluation I have chosen Remo Software - Recover Windows (Pro Edition). Why - because in $99 it offers, deleted file recovery, lost partition recovery, formatted partition recovery and Photo Recovery in one! While other applications either just recover deleted files or camera cards.

Running Remo Recover is easy: You select a disk or the partition to scan, once Remo Recover has finished scanning, you can review the results and recover the files you want.

I tested Remo Recover on a 300GB partition on Windows 7 startup disk, and a 120GB iPod in disk mode using iTunes. Then, I copied 1 GB of text, photos (jpeg etc), mp3, mp4 etc, Word and PDF files on my Windows 7 partition and the iPod, deleted them all, then fired up Remo Recover to see what it could recover.

Remo Recover was able to recover all the deleted files without missing a single file.

Advancement in back-up technology like cloud backup services, heterogeneous backup agents and huge storage solutions offered by SAN or NAS devices have made data loss much less of a worry, but to recover from them or their implementation is not cheap and primarily is afforded by large enterprises. For significantly lesser price and without much of technical know-how using software like Remo Recover provides you the ease to restore your data back from the clutches of data loss.

The application starts up with an extremely simple screen giving you option to Recover deleted files, Recover lost files and advance recovery. This is simpler to understand as compared to other software, which gives you the option to choose the scan type before recovering data. The selection of scan type never educates the user about the output of the scanning results, with Remo Recover option selection you are sure that selecting this option will recover deleted files or the entire drive.

Recovering Data from Mac OS X drive

Remo Recover Mac - Main ScreenRemo Recover supports recovering data from Mac. Remo Recover Mac is available in two versions to choose from.

The Remo Recover Mac - Media Edition helps in recovering deleted / lost photos, digital raw files, videos and music files. Whereas, the Pro Edition, add more to the media edition by recovering all type of deleted / lost files, lost volumes, deleted partitions from HFS+ and HFSX Journaled volumes.

To test Remo Recover Mac - Pro, I copied the same collection of file, which I had used earlier while testing Remo Recover's Windows edition, to add more variety I copied couple of digital raw photo files in Pentax's PEF and Nikon's NEF format.

Then I deleted all the files and rebooted my Mac and launched the software. After complete scanning of the drive Remo Recover recoevered all our deleted files without missing a single file again.
