David L. Ramsey III (b. September 3, 1960) is an American financial writer, radio and television host.

His syndicated radio program, The Dave Ramsey Show, is promoted with a tagline that it is about "Life and Money," and is heard on over 300 radio stations throughout the United States and Canada, and also on XM and Sirius satellite radio. He has written over 14 books, three of which have been on the New York Times Best Seller list. His books and broadcasts often feature a Christian perspective that reflects Ramsey's own religious beliefs.

The Dave Ramsey Baby Steps to being Debt Free

Dave has broken debt freedom down into 7 steps. If you follow them exactly, you'll be debt free as soon and as safely as possible.

  1. Start a Mini Emergency fund with $1,000 in it (Do it Now! 2 months on this step Tops!)
  2. Pay off all of your debts using the Debt Snowball Method.
  3. Enlarge your Emergency fund to 3-6 months of expenses.
  4. Invest 15% of income into IRAs and other appropriate retirement plans
  5. Fund College for any Children.
  6. Pay off your home early
  7. Easy Street! Build up wealth, give it away, travel, help others, do whatever you want!
