Sneakerpimp: AKA Dave Conrey

Ranked #22,320 in Culture & Society, #460,264 overall

I AM: Dave Conrey

I'm a graphic artist working in the automotive publishing area, but trying to branch out to other areas because my job just doesn't pay enough. Squidoo has become my launching pad for all the other ideas swirling around in my head.

My interests range from sneaker culture to art to choppers to just about anything that happens to catch my attention that month, and I plan on doing a lens about them all eventually.

I AM: A Thief!

The stole this format from Kimberly Dawn Wells. Her approach to her "resume" lens was so unique, I decided to repurpose it for my own uses.

Thanks Kim... er Kimberly.

I AM: Happily Married

Born Leslie Mieko Kawasaki, in January of 1970, sister to Todd and Julie and surrogate to our mixed-breed terrier, Freckles; I am proud to call Leslie my wife. Trust me on this, I married way up!

I've never been much of a religious man, but I honestly believe God put Leslie on this planet to save me from myself.

I AM: A Blogger

You can check out my personal blog site at DaveConrey.com. I update about once a week, maybe more if I'm not too busy with other things.

I also help others blog:
The Right Color - Michele Morgan's interior design company
ColorThemes.com - Michele's art and design blog
Coach Kathleen - My Aunt's myspace page. I copy edit.

I AM: An Art Director

My days are filled with page layouts for the finest Chevy performance magazine, Chevy High Performance. Even though we're owned by a large corporation, we operate lean and mean, so I'm responsible for the entire layout of the magazine. No design assistance for this dude, but I have help in the way of a great editors and an in-house prepress department that renders all images to my specifications. So I'm not a slave by any means.

We recently started a Myspace page. You should check it out: Chevy Hi Myspace

I AM: A Sneakerphile

I love sneakers. I have too many pair, mostly VANS, the greatest shoe on earth. Some sneaker freaks like the high-end, ultra-collectible shoes that you buy and then put on a shelf. I like mine classic, reasonably priced and worn out, or at least I like to wear them out.

I AM: A Book-aholic

I read lots of books. Ok, well a reasonable amount of books. As a graphic artist and marketing consultant, I'm constantly reading with others have to say on the subject. Here are books I've read and highly recommend.

I AM: On Ebay

My stock fluctuates, but I've always got some random crap up for sale. I usually buy more than I sell, but that's the American way, right?

Please, buy my stuff so I can get that diamond encrusted thingamajiggy I've always wanted since last week.

I AM: On Flickr

I don't think of myself as an accomplished photographer by any stretch of the imagination, but I've got a few decent shots (not great, just decent). I also use Flickr to host images, so you may see some completely random stuff up there. Pay no attention to the mayhem. Just enjoy its spontaneity.

I AM: A Magazine-aholic too!

Much to my wife's chagrin, I horde magazines. I have them all over the house. It's really a point of contention between us, but I can't help myself. Even though the web has more timely information on news, products and stories, I love the ease of use of magazines. Plus, my wife looks at me funny when I try to take the laptop into the bathroom. These are some that I buy on a regular basis.

I AM: Related to Famous People

Jason Reece - Cousin - Drummer and vocalist for alt-rock band ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. Yes, that is the full name of the band. Jason is my cousin but close enough to be a brother. Even though he spent his formative years in Hawaii, we grew up together and even lived in Austin at the same time for a few years. Check out the band. You'll dig 'em, I promise.

Joseph Conrad - Great, Great, Great Uncle- AKA Joseph Conrad Korzeniewski, author of Heart of Darkness. Heart of Darkness is credited as being a literary treasure. I just wish I was on the list of folks receiving royalties. You might also know the story by it's modern interpretation, Apocalypse Now.

I AM: Always Looking For Feedback

I wouldn't be nothing if I didn't openly accept comments and criticism. Have ideas for what I'm missing or what you want to know more about, please by all means, tell me what you think. I love it all. Thanks for visiting.

Great start on your lensmaking career. I doubt Kimberly minds if you steal or format.
