At least it's a dry heat...?

We have a new favorite song (or, a favorite new song) currently called Seven. It's a tune from the upcoming record, a song that the band debuted last night in Albuquerque then played again tonight. It's complex time signature, Dave's funky falsetto vocals, Fonz's 12 string bass...there are so many layers to this song unfolding before us. Just a couple shows left before we head home for a short break. See y'all in Vegas.

Concert Review

"Who starts their tour at Madison Square Garden?" -Dave

This show was fantastic!

DDTW had great energy and the black curtain that was in front of the stage was a Fail because it nearly came down on Rashawn and Jeff. :)

Cornbread was nice in the 2 spot. The fans are really getting into this song. New horn section midway through.

FTWII- Awesome song! Sounds as tight as the studio version.

Raven- I'm glad they brought this back. I doubt it will follow them to the end of the summer tour but def a good change up. Was waiting for grey street with the 12 string out on the stage.

YMDT- I'm pretty sure the crowd was singing louder then Dave. This song gets better and better live. Coffin tore it up. I can see it in the 1 spot like they did to 2step last tour.

Spaceman- Sweet/ Straight up love song. I can tell the studio version is going to be great. Its gonna grow into itself live.

Nancies- Boyd killed it as usual. Dave started out with a scat solo rather then improv on the beginning lyrics.

Pig!!!- First time seeing it live. Great song! Hope they keep playing it!

Melissa- Classic song and a great performance but would have liked to hear Jessica. haha Allman didn't even acknowledge Dave at the end of the song and walked into a mic.

Recently!!!- Highlight of the night. My favorite Dave song...couldn't believe they played the whole thing. That jam is sick. Unbelievable!

SDL & 27- They were the cigarette after Recently. The end jam of SDL was dynamite.

Why I Am- Was great to hear more then 20 seconds. Dave wasn't lying on a couch during this performance. haha. Crowd started chanting Leroi afterward. Dave said it was his favorite song in the beginning of the recording process. "I'm still here dancing with the Groo Grux King".

Ants 41 and 2 step- 3 monsters in a row. Jam at the end of Ants is getting longer and longer. New end to 2 step...huge drum solo. Coffin walked up to Carters drums during 41 and they were improving back and forth. Very cool!

Sister-Dave voice was very clear. Usually by this time in the show Sister sounds strained. How does he get that guitar tuned that high without a capo? Can someone please message me if they know?

Tripping- Solid finish to the show. This is going to be a great year for DMB. Cool to see Ants Tripping and Recently in the same show.

Concert Review

Such great energy last night. I am still on such a high from it. Started off a little slow, but it quickly built up...and blew me away.

My friends and I were debating whether or not hearing a lot of the same songs from MSG was a good or bad thing. I was hoping to hear a little more variety, but have to say...the ones that were repeated were kicked up a notch last night.

Highlights for me:
- Dave's dance during Crush
- Tim and Jeff's dueling jam during Crush
- The energy during the three new songs, esp Why I Am
- Hearing Grey Street
- Hearing The Maker

- ShaynaIU

Concert Review

The energy from the band was better than average tonight and they seemed to enjoy themselves onstage. It was nice to hear songs like Raven and all of the new songs especially Spaceman with the special guest and the extended outro into Cornbread. The jam on #41 was one of the better ones I have heard in a while. I was hoping to hear another new song tonight but who knows if they will be playing many more of those until they get comfortable or the CD hits the shelves. The show was very short, which explains the extended encore and there were too many repeats from the first two nights. Overall it was a quality show and worth downloading for the version of Spaceman alone.

Concert Review

I'd have to say the best concert I've been to, even though I was pretty high up. The energy level of the band was phenomenal-Jeff's sound definitely fits in with the band;more so than I was expecting. They definitely gave their all for the home crowd-can we say no covers at all?! I dig their covers but they definitely put on crowd favorites.
Bartender opening just set the stage for how the night was going to be
Pig and Granny just continued that feel-great jams and great crowd response.
A little "Old Dirt Hill" and then into "Why I Am" was definitely original and threw in some new.
Dancing Nancies to continue the jamming free-for-all.
Don't Drink The Water-a personal favorite of mine;I had a feeling they were going to play it from Tim's Homeland Security shirt(or maybe it was wishful thinking..either way!)
Funny The Way It is-their new songs are a lot tighter than I expected this early on!
Recently-Back on your feet and dancing
Crush...after a little teasing from Stefan
Spaceman Into Cornbread-maybe a little predictable...but so is So Much To Say into Too Much and I don't complain about that...
Jimi Thing-another 16 minute jam :)
So Much to Say and Too Much-STILL high energy
And topping off the set with Two Step(I honestly thought this would be the encore)but this was one of the best versions I've heard...INSANE energy throughout

Encore:
#27...sweet
Stay...we still ended on a good high energy song
No Last Stop like we were chanting for...but we did get a little tease that got me pumped.
Again-the best concert I've seen-I got last minute tickets after seeing the night before's and knowing they'd have to pull out a longer and more hometown pleasing set list....and they didn't disapoint!

Concert Review

Wow! Great great show last night. The boys started fast last night and never slowed down (minus Sister, but it was E1, so it's understandable.)Anyway, about the show:

Don't Drink The Water: Very strong opener. Was hoping for either this or Bartender to open. Great song to get the crowd going.

Dreaming Tree: I was surprised to hear this this early. I've always thought of this to be a great midset song, but nevertheless, it was my first Dreaming Tree considering I left halfway through Piedmont Park so I was happy to finally hear this one.

Recently: My first Recently. One of the best songs of the night. I was hoping for an eight minute jam version of this song and that's exactly what we got. Everybody was dancing big time during this song. It was very very well performed and an all-around fun song.

You Might Die Trying: I'm not gonna lie, I cringe whenever I see this on the setlist at home on a computer, but whew, this song is SO much better live than when I first heard it at Deer Creek in 2007. Tim, Jeff, and Rashawn bring a lot to the song. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Why I Am: Fun new song. It seemed like they slowed the tempo down compared to the MSG version. Made me look forward to Big Whiskey.

Rhyme and Reason: If this ever comes on my iPod, I usually skip it, but it was fun to see it live for the first time. Tim owns on this.

Funny The Way It Is: I love the studio version of this song, but the only noteworthy thing about this live is an extended Boyd solo.

Ants Marching: Totally caught off guard with this. I saw it close the set in Louisville last year, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Ants mid-set. The band continues to have a great time playing this live and you know the crowd is always gonna love hearing Ants. I may be biased, but this was one of the best Ants Marching I've ever heard.

Raven: Another shocker. Never thought I'd hear Raven live before Where Are You Going. I hadn't listend to this song in awhile so I'd forgotten how great a tune it is. I really enjoyed Jeff on this one.

Crash Into Me: Hadn't heard it live, so I got to cross it off the list. Standard Crash.

So Damn Lucky: Finally got to hear this. Love the extended outro. It may have just been me, but it seemed like Tim was having a little trouble at the beginning of the outro. Great tune.

Spaceman: My favorite musically of the new tunes. Great horn parts and I really like Tim's little blues-like solo to end it. This went into....

Cornbread: I know how much everyone hates seeing this on the setlist every single night, but boy, this thing has become a monster IMO. You may disagree, but live, this song is money.

Grey Street: Seen this at all four of the shows I've been to, and this was the best one. It may have just been because I was there, but it seemed like they jammed at the end for A LOT longer than they usually do. Jeff and Rashawn dueling back and forth was a heck of a lot of fun to watch.

Jimi Thing: my first Jimi Thing. Again, I may be a little biased, but this is probably the best Jimi Thing I've ever heard. It had everything: awesome Boyd solo, awesome Tim solo, Jeff Coffin on two saxes, Carter tearing it up as always, and a nice little Dave scat to end. What more could you ask from this song?

Anyone Seen The Bridge ...> Too Much Intro ...> Tripping Billies: saw them do the Bridge into Ants at Louisville last year and was hoping they had another fake in them, and of course, they did. ASTB was fun as always, and Boyd was on top of his game on Billies. Great way to close the set.

Blue Water: WOW! I had to do a quadruple take to make sure my ears were hearing right. I never thought I would ever hear a portion of this song ever. All I can say is THANK YOU DAVE!

Sister: What better way to bring us back to Earth from the high of Blue Water? This was in the E1 spot, so I didn't really mind hearing it.

Burning Down The House: Got to hear the first ever version of this in Louisville last year, and was surprised to hear it in the encore. They really have a lot of fun playing this and it showed in their delivery. Flawless cover.

PNP ....> Rapunzel: I was hoping for anything but Stay to close, and I was happy to take PNP/Rapunzel. Jeff and Rashawn tore this song to SHREDS in the closing jam. Without a doubt the best PNP/Rapunzel I've ever heard.

Best show I've seen. Check it out and judge for yourself. Hope to have DMB back in Birmingham next year.

Concert Review

Just got back from a tight show in Raleigh tonight. It got really chilly out there tonight, hopefully it warms up for Charlotte on friday.

Bartender: Was expecting OSW, but this was a pleasant surprise, I love the curtain and everything.

#27: Not my favorite, but will take it. Band seemed a little out of it.

Why I Am: Was looking foward to hearing this one, I really dig this song and they looked to be coming around.

ASTB->Too Much fake-> Ants marching: I was a little surprised when ASTB started and was completely fooled by the Too Much fake. Ants is always good.

YMDT: Was digging this song for a while, but starting to wear off. Carter is fun on this one.

Spaceman: probably my least favorite of the 3 new ones, but its growing on me, solid.

Cornbread: Fun, crowd pleasing song. I went to the bathroom and smoked a J.

Raven: Wasn't sure if this would stick around for NC, but it was awesome.

Dancing Nancies->Warehouse: Love this combo. Crowd was so loud during Nancies. Would have been upset if they didn't go into Warehouse. First one of the tour and it was tight.

Funny the Way it is: I'm digging this tune, they did it justice.

So Damn Lucky: Carter rips and tim melts. Good stuff.

#41: Best song i've seen in person. Carter and Coffin were dueling for a what seemed like 5-10 minutes. Absolutely amazing.

Grey Street: Always a winner, crowd loves it, dave was spot on. I enjoy coffin and rashawn's outro.

Two Step: Probably my favorite song of the boys and they nailed it.

Blue Water: Was thinking this would be played after last show. Dave was all over the vocals, it was short, but sweet. Chilling.

AATW: Sweet stuff, always a good closer. Dave was on fire. Sang vocals from Stairway to heaven to accompany tim's solo. Crowd was nuts. Great way to end a great night.

Overall, the boys seemed in high spirits tonight. Carter and Dave seemed like they were having the time of their lives and were very talkative. Tim wasn't overpowering as some have stated and boyd although some what emotionless was playing spot on. MVP goes to Coffin though. he literally blew my mind.

Concert Review

This was my 10th show and I couldn't have asked for much more in this landmark. I sadly will most likely only get to make it to one show this year but I am so glad it was this one. I had a great time.

PNP--> Rapunzel- When the curtains were up I heard the band noodling on stage. I turned to my buddy who was at his first show and asked him if it sounded like Where Are you going. HE said yeah and that he hoped it was. Needless to say this was a nice surprise. Great start to a show.

WAYG- Kindof a kick in the nads. My buddy was pumped and even though it isn't my favorite I still love it and find myself singing along.

Stay Or Leave- This one kindof got lost for me. Like everyone has said it was a really slow, quiet start to the show.

The guy standing next to me started talking to me about how he'd been to 150+ rush shows and that he was in some band. At first I thought he was just full of shit and I wanted him to shut up so I could listen to the show. He had a bunch of passes around his neck and he said they were to go backstage. Needless to say I was friendly and asked him if he wasn't going to use them if he could give it to me. He said if the band played his favorite song, grey street, he would hook me up

Recently- This sketch guy left and Recently started. I was thrilled. Pretty Pretty girl outro was sweet. Hell everything was sweet.

Burning Down the House- First time I had seen it. Crowd was really digging it and you can tell the band loves seeing the crowd singing along.

Crush- Fonz started his solo and I knew what was coming. I saw it last year with Jeff and Tim and it was a highlight so I was pumped to hear it again. They didn't disappoint

Why I Am- My backstage pass friend came back and he was really digging this song. He was talking alot which was obnoxious but I was doing alot of ignoring and head nodding. Very cool song live You can tell the band likes it and relates it with roi

Spaceman- I love this song but I hate knowing that cornbread is next. Cool version, alot of people sat but as soon as I mentioned cornbread was next everyone was back to their feet.

Cornbread- I actually enjoy it....in small doses. I like how the crowd loves it and more importantly how the band loves it. I've never seen Dave dance like he did here. It had the crowd laughing and dancing and singing.

#41- As everyone has read it was nuts. Jeff is a machine on the sax. I can't wait to hear this recording. Fastest 20 minutes that have ever gone on for me. I loved it

SMTS- standard version. I feel like Ive seen this song at every show but It's fun and everyone knows it. I can't complain

ASTB--> TM(Fake)- The band fooled me cause they like sat their for like 5 minutes doing nothing. It looked like they were confused but it was still cool.

Billies- I checked the time at this point thinking this might be the end of a really short main set with a beast of an encore on the way. Billies is cool, it was a summer night so the lawn was definitely loving it.

FTWII- I expected to see it in the encore. I love this song but it was at the wrong part in the set.

SDL- Crowd loves this song. I do too. I think the outro is one of those things that tim loves to play over and over again. Solid vocals from Dave and everything was great.

Grey Street- I was guessing Ants cause the new guitar fooled me. It looked just like the taylor but when the screen showed it up close it was the 12. I was pumped to hear this 1. cause I love this song and 2. Cause my buddy said he had passes for me now.

Unfortunately this dude had left with some random girls who he promised to take to the front row but during the encore break he showed up again and proceeded to tell me he couldn't help me out this time but that he would get me front row for next year. I hesitantly gave him my phone number and hopefully he'll follow through. I think he's full of shit though. That was a serious letdown

Blue Water- I was hoping and praying and man was it awesome. I was loving it while everyone around me had no clue what was up. Dave seems to be feeling it recently.

Crash- Crowd loved it. It doesnt do much for me but its not on my hate list by any means.

Stay- 10 minutes till 11, it was obvious what was coming here. I left halfway through to sneak into the front sections to try and get up close. People love this song, it works to finish a show.

I was walking past the sound booth after the show and I spotted a setlist so I asked the guy back there if he could hook me up. He had headphones on so I felt like a jackass cause I was like shouting and waving my hands so he could hear me. He finally did and he gave it to me. That was a great memento for the 10th show especially since blue water is written on there. I talked to the light and sound guys for awhile and it sounds like they are loving being on the road

Overall this was a great show and seeing no stand up or everyday songs certainly gave it that older feel that we all love. I may try and trek up to VA Beach this summer now that I am officially back in DMB music mode.

Concert Review

Just got back, good show with lots of fan favorites. Jeff was on FIRE tonight, guess he was happy to be home.

Bartender- Was hoping I'd get this as I've seen DDTW open before. No curtain tonight which gave me hope for possibly a new opener, but this was good. Jeff's pennywhistle solo was good, and Rashawn did If I Only Had a Brain. Good version of Bartender but a little shorter than I expected

Grey Street- It's a good song, but honestly not my favorite. This was the BEST SONG of the night. Jeff and Rashawn went CRAZY!! They have such good chemistry on stage. This Grey Street rocked HARD

Satellite- Short and sweet version, but I was still reeling from the Last Stop tease. That was awesome but just plain cruel

Seek Up- Was very glad to hear it debut this tour. Jeff did a GREAT job on the intro and it was a very emotional outro, just about gave me chills

Burning Down the House- This is always fun and really gets the crowd into it. My girlfriend thought it was hilarious that Rashawn does vocals for it

Why I Am- Hadn't listened to it in any depth before tonight but must say this is my favorite new song now. It's so good and Timmy does a great job with that electric as usual. Dave told a great story about Leroi liking this song and how his face used to look everytime he heard it

ASTB>Too Much (fake) > Ants Marching- ASTB was really awesome, I knew the fake was coming and was pleased (though not surprised) it went into Ants. Great version of Ants and I love the new changing up of the number of stop-time beats

You Might Die Trying- What can I say, it was always one of my favorite Stand Up songs and I enjoyed it tonight as well. One of my girlfriend's favorite songs so I was pleased

Recently- Awesome! First time seeing it in concert and they did an extended Pretty Pretty Girl outro, the jam was very well done

Crash Into Me- It's always a pretty song but I didn't think tonight's version was anything special. That might have to do with the frat kids that were trying to screw their girlfriends around me during it

Spaceman > Cornbread - Spaceman is a pretty weird song, but it's cool. Timmy rocked the shit out of Cornbread, I always like it live.

FTWII- Very fun song! I really enjoyed it live as well

Jimi Thing- Great version with a RIDICULOUS Tim solo. Coffin also made it his bitch

Two Step- Did not see this coming since time was getting short. Good version, but Carter DESTROYED it. Best drumming I've ever seen, hands down, even from him. You need to hear it, but it won't do it justice without watching what he's doing. The man is insane.

Blue Water- I was SOOOO excited, especially when Boyd's solo started, thought we would get the full version but it was still truncated. It's coming though guys don't worry

AATW- Was hoping so badly to hear it. It was awesome! Dave sang Stairway again (turns out he may not actually know all the lyrics but that's ok). Screamed FIRE! at the end, second best performance of the night.

Overall a pretty damn good show even if most of the songs played were not "hardcore favorites" I'm going to Atlanta's 2 night stand and hoping to get Raven there.

Jeff destroyed this show. He and Rashawn are so awesome, and I'm thankful to have them both, but still miss Leroi.

Concert Review

It was the worst possible reason to retrofit his band: The death of saxophonist Leroi Moore following an all-terrain-vehicle accident. To fill the void, Dave Matthews added saxophonist Jeff Coffin and trumpeter Rashawn Ross, and gave longtime collaborator Tim Reynolds an expanded roll on electric guitar.

The result, showcased before a massive crowd at Jazz Fest's Acura Stage, was an energized, more interesting Dave Matthews Band.

Matthews often stepped aside to let the others stretch. Coffin -- wearing a Preservation Hall T-shirt -- squared off with drummer Carter Beauford for an extended passage. A long intro and extended improvisation built around violinist Boyd Tinsley made for a powerhouse "Ants Marching." Reynolds carved out solos from the opening number on. They all had fun with a cover of Talking Heads' "Burning Down the House."

Matthews and company recorded much of their forthcoming "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" CD at Piety Street Studio in Bywater this spring. "I fell in love with this city so hard," he declared, adding later, "Very nice to be here, neighbors."

He repeatedly name-checked Ivan Neville's DumpstaPhunk ("I had my head blown wide open and it was because of DumpstaPhunk").

Matthews dedicated the new "Why I Am" to Moore. On electric guitar instead of his usual acoustic, he and Reynolds carved out big hooks; the song evoked an amped up Warren Zevon. If "Why I Am" is any indication, their Big Easy stopover did them good.

Concert Review

Let me also say this: tonight's show blew Vandy away.

The crowd seemed much more into it (I had the worst seats at both shows so that doesn't seem to be a factor) and the band was just more spot on with everything musically.

Here's my song by song review:

PNP > Rapunzel- First time I've ever seen this open. It's a very light way to start a show as opposed to DDTW/Bartender. Also short and sweet, and gets the fans going. I really enjoyed it. Oh, and they brought the curtains back tonight.

WAYG- Dave said he was going to start off slowly, and he really did. Not my favorite song, not my least favorite. It was a pretty normal WAYG, but it was short and didn't drag the show down too much.

Stay or Leave- I had never heard this full band before, and let me say, this is the best Some Devil song that DMB has tried, or if not it's very close to SDL. It converts so well full band! I loved the drumming, and it's my girlfriend's favorite song so she was extremely pleased.

Funny the Way It Is- I must say, they killed this song tonight! It was so awesome! Timmy's solo was spot on, and it brought the energy up a bunch. Best live version I've heard of it yet

Why I Am- This is my favorite Big Whiskey song. No exception tonight. Nothing gets me more excited than Dave saying "That's why I am still here dancing with the GrooGrux King"! Very well done tonight

Burning Down the House- Brought an already high level of energy up to an even higher level- the fans love this one, and I don't blame them for keeping it in the rotation. Plus, its really funny to watch Rashawn sing on it

#41- Let me say this right now: THIS IS THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF ANY SONG THAT THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND HAS EVER PUT ON. Jeff went CRAZY. He soloed for what seemed like 5-6 minutes. He hit every register on the sax and started simple and became more complex and simple again and really just mixed it up while never taking a breath. I was blown away. Tim also added a great solo at the end to seal the deal. This MUST be released, listen to the tape. By the way, Dave mixed up "Iwanted to stay, I wanted to play" and Sojourn was played

Spaceman > Cornbread - Honestly, the low point of the night for me. Spaceman is alright, but my least favorite new song. Cornbread I generally like, but tonight it was just not doing it for me. Even Tim's solo was not enough for me to maintain interest, and the segue was not as smooth as Nashville's.

Crash Into Me- Not their best version of Crash Into Me, but what can you do? The fans love it

Dancing Nancies- Was pleasantly surprised to see this. Dave said "Could I have been lost somewhere in Georgia?" Sounds like a new horn outro, or at least one I haven't heard before, and it sounds great! They jammed this out a good bit

Warehouse- I was hoping so badly Nancies would go into Warehouse and it did! Started with the guitar intro from the Piedmont version and went into a normal Warehouse. They jammed the hell out of this and gave the horns yet another time to shine. They really need to turn Boyd up and Timmy down on this song though. I couldn't hear Boyd picking his violin at all most of the song, and I could hear Tim's guitar entirely too prevalently, and it's not necessary on Warehouse.

The Dreaming Tree- Must say I was very surprised to hear this, as we were running out of time fast (it was 10:25). Great performance. Didn't like Jeff much on the flute for the first part, but then he settled down and it sounded great! This version was more pretty than haunting

Ants Marching- Time was almost out and I thought for sure this would be truncated and close. It didn't and it sounded great as usual. Carter really mixed up the drumming on this, I think he even confused the band a little, but his drumming was top notch. Boyd's playing was outstanding as well

Grey Street- Was surprised to see this close, but it did. They did a good job and it had a lot of momentum as a closer

Encore:

Sister- Was not surprised at all to see this. The crowd was actually very attentive and received it well. Still the same old Sister, but Tim helps it out a little

Rye Whiskey- This was just Dave going up and singing a few lines by himself. Honestly, no one had any idea what it was from, but we all laughed as it was pretty funny. Basically about him loving to get drunk

AATW- Great to see it close again. This version was short and sweet, probably 5-6 minutes as it was 11:15 when it started. Tim had a small solo and Dave ended it quickly. Still was a great way to end the show.

Overall, probably the best show I've been to thus far out of 4.

Dave was full of energy tonight. He said all kinds of crazy stuff (too numerous to mention here) but the highlight was him making fun of a woman chasing a beach ball being tossed around

People have said Boyd has been looking a little down or off. I think he is just doing what he's supposed to. When he's not in the song, he stands to the side of the stage just like the other members to allow his bandmates a chance to play. When he's up soloing, he has fire. Honestly he was the MVP of the night for me. His playing was dead on and energetic

Coffin still continue to amaze me. His solo on #41 was godly. He and Rashawn have incredible energy and chemistry on the stage, and I'm glad they have been brought into the band. However, they still do not live up to the great Leroi

Concert Review

Everyday - wasn't really excited to have this as an opener, but it's a good way to get people's butts to their seats. didn't really have a lot of energy. the crowd wasn't even singing the hani, hani part.

So Damn Lucky - this was really good. the jam at the end seemed longer than past times i've seen this song.

You Might Die Trying - figured we'd get this at some point over the two nights. however, this song has turned into a beast live. the horn parts and dave's wailing at the end really bring this song to a climax

Spaceman - didn't seque into Cornbread and for some reason they couldn't get the cool Mardi Gras party video up until the last chorus. this song sounds really good. my friend really liked it. i wish jeff would play during the jam though. something seems missing with just rashawn playing. the jam is much shorter than some early shows in the tour.

Satellite - Dave did this crazy off-key Satellite-like riff for a few minutes at the beginning and even got Tim and Carter to play along. Standard Satellite. Definitely a crowd pleaser

Recently - YES! I was hoping they'd play this tonight. It's been a while since I've heard it, and it more than lived up the hype. This is a classic DMB jam song and one of the songs that originally got me into DMB. Pretty Pretty Girl outtro was played.

Funny The Way It Is - seemed to have more energy than Night 1. Boyd's solo was longer and a little bit more energetic. I think they need to let this one breathe a little bit and extend the two jams a bit. Still a monster song live though.

Crash Into Me - first repeat from Night 1 that wasn't a new song. I guess they needed to please the crowd and it sure did do the trick. The ladies love some Crash. Dixie Chicken outtro was played.

Rye Whiskey - Dave teased this last night, but this was a full band version. Still needs some work, but it's going to be one of their best covers to date. Just wait. Dave introduced the song by telling the crowd that he had been listening to a lot of Pete Seger lately, and that this was one of his songs.

Why I Am - it was cool to see "Rye Whiskey" played before this. The whole whiskey thing made sense. Why I Am was awesome again tonight. This will definitley move up on my list of favorite DMB songs.

Rhyme and Reason - I'd never seen Joe Lawlor play guitar before at a show an man did he shred that thing up. His solo during R&R was unreal. Even Time was standing there with his mouth open (I was 4th row). The end was very intense. They really jammed it out tonight. One of the better R&R's I've heard.

Beach Ball - this actually wasn't planned. The guitar tech had given Dave another guitar, but Dave called him back out to switch it to the "Sister" guitar. They were supposed to go directly into Jimi Thing, but I guess Dave wanted to surprise us. Beach Ball was a fun little song. Very old school DMB. It's got a nice summery, playful vibe to it. Reminds me a little of the Song That Jane Likes. They are definitely defined slow and fast parts, but it's not a loud song. I think y'all will really enjoy the tape of this. It was fun to dance and groove to. It's more like something that would have been on Remember Two Things.

Jimi Thing - just nasty! Solos from everyone. Dave even stepped to the mic and asked Boyd "play another solo" after he played his first one. It was kind of funny. Caught Boyd off guard. Jeff Coffin was a wild man on this one. He can really blow the heck out of that sax. He had at least a 5 minute solo. Tim had a nice solo too. Dave did his typical scatting. The song ended in this ridiculous jam.

So Much To Say - standard version with the stop-time breakdown and then it went immediately into an extended ASTB.

Too Much Fake - yeah, it was pretty much the opening notes and then right into...

Tripping Billies - great song! standard, but great. Some new horn parts freshened it up a bit. Thought this was the set closer, but nope.

Two Step - YES YES YES! My favorite song never gets old. I could hear this at every DMB show. So much fun to dance too. Carter's solo was about one of the best things I've ever seen musically. How does this guy keep time when he's doing all that stuff? Craziness.

The Maker - this was the #1 song that my buddy wanted to hear. He loves this song. I called it. They extended the "Oh river rise" part. I think I counted 10 times before ending the song.

Stay - expected this since everyone other potential closer song had been played last night or tonight. Always a fun closer.

Concert Review

DDTW: awesome opener as always....during the pre DDTW noodle dave sang a couple verses..not sure what though..it was really hard to hear

Stay Or Leave: pretty awesome. a favorite of mine. i like it full band for sure.

Funny The Way It Is: Extended solos by Boyd and Tim

Spaceman: I dig it...i like the sections it has to it.

Cornbread: Crowd went wild....it's an upper for sure...i've heard it alot though. Shorter Tim solo...had the long build up with the horns at the end of his solo.

Raven: first real surprise of the night. very cool. Coffin and Boyd owned. Jeff Coffin was freaking insane all night long.

Why I Am: Very cool tune. The GrooGrux king references are chilling.

Jimi Thing: Nice version. Crowd sang first verse. Coffin rocked balls...played 2 saxes at once. Rashawn was great. A little Tim solo at the end. Davescat was pretty standard but he went crazy as always.

Beach Ball: Chill song. They added alot to it tonight. Long solos by Rashawn and Jeff. I would say it was maybe around 6 minutes or.

WAYG: to the bathroom...that's where i'm going

Two Step: Carter Beauford is a fucking monster. No way the guy is human. Seriously i was blown away..and i saw this twice last year. Much more intense than either version i saw last year. They went all out on this one.

Rye Whiskey: mehhh...kind of a downer..i like how dave sings it but the crowd wasn't into it.

Pig: Very surprising and very good as always

#41: The name of #41 should be changed to "Jeff Coffin's Bitch"
also...dave fucked up the lyrics pretty good during the first chorus

ASTB with Fake Too Much: always fun...had a feeling grey street was coming since dave had the 12 string

Grey Street: 2 verses of course. Really jammed out hardcore at the end. It was like 10:20 when this song was over so i wasn't expecting it to close but it did

ENCORE

Everyday: singing it is always fun but..you know..it's everyday

PNP--->Rapunzel: Always fun...i like it as an opener better but this song never fails to rock.

All in all I got the vibe that the band was maybe holding back a little. The sets are definitely repetitive but i'm not complaining. I think N2 in Dallas should be much better. There were a lot of lames in my section. My first time to the woodlands and it's nicer than Dallas but i definitely prefer dallas.

Star of the night: Jeff Coffin..honorary mention: Carter

Concert Review

Crowd was way more into it around me tonight...not sure if that's universal but it's the read I got from the people in my territory

Bartender: pretty cool thing with a white curtain and you could see the band members shadows behind it. long ass penny whistle solo for Jeff and "If i only had a brain" with Rashawn was really slow and cool

Stay Or Leave: saw it in the two spot last night as well. I think i liked it last night better. my favorite song off of some devil though

Where Are You Going?: Saw it last night as well....that's all i have to say.

Funny The Way It Is: Funny the way i was getting nervous about how much the set looked like last nights. This song is really cool though. The people around me knew the words and stuff.

You Might Die Trying: Standard version...lots of yelling of course in the end. Each band member got a chance to shine on it.

Spaceman: I'm digging it the more and more i hear it. Can't wait to hear the studio version.

Cornbread: Seems i must see this at every show i attend. Dave danced more on it tonight...tim's solo was longer.

The Maker: "Oh river rise from your sleep"..they did that line at least a dozen times and it picked up tempo each time. I had never heard it live before and it was really cool.

Why I Am: He told a story about how Leroi never was really into dancing but he danced with his face and his face always started dancing when they worked on this tune. The lyrics give me the chills.

Crush: Never seen it before. It was the one i really wanted. Jeff vs. Tim duel was so sweet. Crowd ate it up. Jeff walked over to Tim as if to challenge him. That shit was wild.

When The World Ends: Standard

Nancies: SICK...dave scatted the first of it for like 45 seconds...4th time seeing it.

Warehouse: 4th time seeing it....SICK

Crash: Standard...always get the hormones going

Grey Street: "Sometimes we like to play this fast"....they did...closed with it last night but it was still super bad ass

ENCORE

Dave walked out and said "we're gonna try to play something yall can dance too since it's raining out there on the lawn" the band seemed appreciative of the dedication to fight the storms.

Ants: Insane at an E1 spot. The ending was too wild. They mixed the beat stop time thing up alot. Went to 5 beats alot...i had heard about it from other shows in the tour but i had never seen it and it was amazing.

Watchtower: Dave's eyes rolling in the back of his head...had several random "yeah's" during boyd and tim's solo....jeff and rashawn played what seemed to be a rehearsed horn part

to me it was better than last night...and energy wise was the best show out of 7 i have seen. i love these guys...hope to see them in october in tulsa and ACL

Concert Review

The first couple of songs were bleh ... not as good as usual ... the crowd could have been more into the opener: Everyday.

My take is that a good concert is more interactivity between the band & the crowd than just "the band."

"You Might Die Tryin'" rocked the house - the first couple were just a warm-up IMO.

"Why I Am", and the "Anyone Seen the Bridge" into "Too Much" faked into Ants Marching was awesome (a surpise, and an excellent fakie).

The rest of the show was d@mn good IMHO.

Cornbread, as always, was loved. And "Burning Down the House" was just a wonderful, beautiful, f*ing awesome surprise (played great, too).

I wasn't too impressed with what DMB Almanac says is "Seven" ... maybe it's one I need to acclimate to. "Grey Street" was served straight-up, always a favorite, and had some jamming twists that I'm not used to (Jeff is getting his DMB chops).

"#41," "Dancing Nancies," and "Where Are You Going" were good, as usual.

Two Step ... just d@mn ... excellent ... download the T&T show to hear it ... absolutly awesome.

Encore: Cool. I didn't think there's be one, but it was good. Rapunzel has never been a favorite, but it was played well enough that I didn't notice until I was digging it. I always love "The Maker."

Concert Review

Tonights show was fantastic. Number 20 for me and i gotta say it is in my top 3. The band was on top form. Jeff really shone, Carter was amazing, Boyd was great also. He seemed to be really into the show tonight. daves voice was really great all night. It didnt crack!

Timmy was there but not too overpowering which was cool. He had some lovely solo's. Stefan was having a ball! And Rashawn was cool but not stand outish tonight! The general atmosphere in the Pavillion was great. Lots of dancing. Only complaint was not being able to smoke! ah well!

Anyway, here goes..

Rye Whiskey - was not expecting this! dave came out and no-one followed. He just went into Rye Whiskey. Best version ive heard him do so far. His voice was very clear and it made this a great unique way to start the show

Tripping Billies - boom, the rest of the band came out and ripped this song up. Boyd was really into this. Crowd loved it.

Spaceman - Interesting placement. really digging this song. Its a got a very laid back vibe and Carter has a class groove going on.

Pantala Naga Pampa -
Rapunzel - Loved it. Jeff was so good on this. The jam at the end, energy heaven!

Crash Into Me - Nice. Went up for a smoke and watched this from the top. Kept the ladies happy!

Seven - Heard the last shows version on Youtube. Didnt know what to make of this song. Tonight it seemed more rehearsed. More together. The band was really into this one. Dave sang the falsettos perfect tonight and they worked. I have a feeling this song will be a beast in shows to come.

Dreaming Tree - amazing. Loved it. Jam at the end was brilliant. Jeff played a lovely Flute solo. then they broke it down and back into the "chcolate Rain" Outro. Daves voice really was spot on tonight.

Funny The Way It Is - I love this song. So i really enjoyed this version. Was great to hear it live. Boyd had an extended solo as did Tim. The crowd loved it too. Heard a lot of peeps singing it!

So Damn Lucky - Some time around this dave started talking about his "Sweat issues" He said its ok when he sweats in Arizona cause its Dry heat and the sweat just disapears into the air. It was quite funny, but obviously in a way only Dave can say it! SDL was great. Standard, but the outro made me miss Roi .

Everyday - twas good placement for the song and although we could have got pig or Raven, i did enjoy this version. It had a good vibe and worked well tonight. Had to laugh when i heard a girl behind me saying "Wheres the lovely ladies?!!" as it began!

#41 - Epic. Is the only word. Jeff battling Carter. unreal. Great version.

Why I Am - gotta say, I did enjoy this song from the tapes but hearing it live was mind blowing. what a song. It f**kn Rocks. an DMB staple in years to come. No doubt.

Dancing Nancies - Great stuff! Boyd was on fire. The outro was really good. Nice horns going on, and the crowd were Dancing (like Nancies).
Dave commented on a bar up the top of the lawn called "Liquid". He could see it from the stage and said that everytime he forgets he is thirsty he is reminded by the sign on the bar. again it was funny davespeak but i suppose ya had to be there!

Warehouse - Great. they did the Salsa outro. This was one song where Rashawn stood out.

Crush - Again a beast live. The chorus is so uplifting. The outro again was jammed out. Jeff and Timmy had a face off. Good times!

Grey Street - Saw the 12 string come out. The new extended outro is so good. Jeff and Rashanw take half a phrase each then just go crazy at the end. Suprisingly great closer.

Encore:

Don't Drink the Water - Really atmospheric intro by stefan and dave. Daves voice again really stood out. class

All Along The Watchtower - a great finishing song. The crowd loved it, especially a another girl beside me who asked " Is this Warehouse?" "No, they played that 4 songs ago!". Haha! anyway, timmy did Stairway, everyone kinda joined in (I think). I remember Dave&Carter doing a harmony "Ahhhh" 4 times then Jeff and Rashawn kicked in with a cool fill.

A fantastic show and well worth the trip to Phoenix. hitting the road to Vegas tomorrow for the 2 MGM shows. Cant wait. Hope this was ok! Tried to remember everything! Peace.

Concert Review

Tripping Billies - didnt expect to get this again so early. Good upbeat way to start the show.

Spaceman - I do like this song but could have done with something different at this point of the show. Still it was played well.

Corn Bread - The crowd loved it. they wanted to party. Its ok, I enjoyed
watching Dave dancing towards Tim during his solo. Also enjoyed rashawn and jeff playing "Hoedown" during the song.

Seven - Played well tonight again. Kinda missed the vocals at the start because a dude started talking to me..argh!!!
the clip on the "Road" page was after this. I think it was Dave saying to people the song is a bit strange but keep with it, you'll like it. Guess we have to trust him!

So Damn Lucky - This was cool. Sounded quite standard tho. Might need a break in the summer.

Out Of My Hands - Saw the piano coming out. Dave said his "One Finger" joke. The intro to this song is quite good. As is the outro when the band kicks in, but the rest of it is just too chilled for a crowd in the MGM. Lots of prople sitting down. Also gave a DMB lesson to a dude beside me who was trying to convince me OOMH is on "Some Devil". Nice guy tho.

You Might Die Trying - Im a fan of this song live. The outro is powerful. Really enjoyed it.

Funny The Way It Is - again im a fan. Standard live version. Boyds solo was doubled as was Tims. Beside's that its the same as the single.

#41 - It was 41 time. The crowd went nuts. Long, but great. Thought it was better in Phoenix. Probably because i had better seats and the sound was way better.

Why I Am - Such an amazing live song. Possibly my favourite of the night. Actually, it was!

Where Are You Going - Nice to hear it but sucked the energy out of the show. there was a lot of songs that did this tonight. rashawn took the "sax" solo. Its kinda cool because I see it as the band saying the only Sax part in the song will always belong to LeRoi.

Jimi Thing - Great. Really enjoyed this one. Havent heard it live in a while. Crowd sang most of the song. Lots of solo's. Dave's skat was cool.

Rhyme And Reason - Loved hearing this. Really like the horns during Tims solo. Have to say at times Tim was a bit too much. Maybe it was the sound but I could hardly hear Dave's guitar all night. Also, tim is using a lot of distortion on songs, that in 98, he wouldnt have.. Still Daves voice was great on this.

Burning Down The House - Dave started this with a cool intro riff and Tim joined in. Havent heard the original in a while but i think its just a "take" on this. Song was standard. Its a good song to get the crowd going.

Two Step - Boyd just started this the second they finished playing BDTH. great version, Crazy drums by Carter near the end. The band just stopped and let him do his thing for about 2-3minutes.
__________________

Rye Whiskey - dave came and said he might "Skweak" on this one!! "SKquirm??!!" Ha ha! anyway. His voice was shot but he did pull it together.

All Along The Watchtower - Fonz intro. Watchtower is a good finisher. Ive said it before, ill say it again. Enjoyed it. They did the stairway bit again. Sounded great, especially the Horns.

So, overall it was a solid show. But I dont think the MGM grand is a great venue. Its nice and cool to look around but the sound was very poor. I expected better. This wont be in my top 5 or 10. I had a good night tho. The band played well, all the songs sounded good. There was just something missing. Also, a serious lack of screens. If your gonna have seats that dont give you a great view of the stage then at least provide some screens!!!

Concert Review

I thought the show tonight was brilliant. The band was on fire, they had a good time, when dont they! the crowd was great also, except a few people besid me who sat down a lot. didnt stop me, didnt stop dancing all night! Jason Mraz was a good opener, wouldnt be a fan, havent got an album but he does create a good buzz. He said he's been a DMB fan for "16 years".

And onto the show...

Bartender - They had the curtians up and when the band kicked in it was really effective. Bartender was class. Jeff had a lovely Pennywhistle solo, and they played the "If i only had a brain" interpolation which was sweet.

Stay Or Leave - Dave said they were gonna "Take it easy" tonight. Got very worried!! Ha! This was nice to hear, could have done it more mid-set tho.

Granny - Fantastic, one of the highlights for me. Just great to hear. again my main problem with tonight was the sound in the venue. I thought it would be better seeing as tho were we head on with the stage but it wasnt. Sound was very muffled and badly mixed.

Why I Am - For the third time in my reviews this song was amazing. I never thought a week ago that this would be my favourite new song. But it is. Also I hope that the cheers get louder for the "Still here dancing with the Groo Grux King" line. Cause the band needs to hear them everytime!

Grey Street - Saw the 12 string again and was really hoping for Raven... Still it was a good version. Great end jam again with horns bringing the song to a new high.

Recently - Very happy to get this and also one of the longest versions i have heard. The solo section was sweet. everyone got a jam, then they go into the "Pretty Girl" interpolation. Really cool version. Also great lights on this one.

Crash Into Me - No offence but went out for a smoke. Its a great song but felt it was a good point to head out. I did ask my neighbours (A couple) would they mind if i had a smoke seeing as tho everyone else around us was smoking. They said "We would prefer if you didnt" So I said ok. Then (this bit annoyed me) the chap said "What are you smoking" Meaning cigarettes or weed. I said Cigarette, he said "No". I was amazed, so I said to him "If I had a joint I wouldnt share it with you" Bad form. Some people are so cheeky.

Spaceman - Looking forward to album version of this. I think it's a great song.

Dancing Nancies - Nancies! Dave sang "Lost somewhere in Vegas", which was nice! Boyd had fun.

Funny The Way It Is - Enjoyed it. Not many people around me knew it tonight, opposite to last night. Think it was around here where Dave was saying "Dont lose your shit in Vegas" Funny dave speak.

Warehouse - Not sure why, but i thought this would be the closer. Tonights show seemed like it was a long one, in a good way of course! Warehouse was real good. Rashawn blew the roof off the place.

Dreaming Tree - I loved it. Jam was great. Jeff played Flute, loved it. But the crowd around me didnt. Lots of people sitting down. Strange!

Crush (Stefan playing a few bass notes) - Stefan noodling, then plays a line of Stir it up and the crowd catches on. They start to sing it. Loud.

Stir It Up - Carter joins in, tim joins in. Dave moves round the stage, looking at the crowd as we sing our hearts out! The band keeps going. Crowd keeps going. Jeff and Rashawn play a line or two and look like they are about the start a bit more and the band ends it. It was cool to see. They just jammed it like a band messing in a garage would.

Crush - Crush was great. Crowd were really into it. Tim and Jeff had a battle, good times in Vegas!

Everyday - Standard enough version. crowd loved it, I danced, i was happy! Wanted Pig real bad tho!

Pantala Naga Pampa -
Rapunzel - Just before they played this Dave's roadie was coming out with a new guitar. Also Tim had his flying V. Then they were chatting, Dave & Carter. Roadie runs away, Tim grabs his fender. And they play, I now know they were meant to play DDTW, maybe Daves voice wasnt up to it.
rapunzel was great. lots of energy. Great set closer.

The Maker - I really was expecting something really special. Not sure why! This killed the crowd. It was good and all but I thought they could have played it earlier in the set. Also, tim was too heavy on it.

Anyone Seen The Bridge - This was cool. Love seeing Fonz jumping around. He should do it more!

Too Much (Fake) -
Ants Marching - Lots of people were confused when Ants started!! Ha ha! I knew it was coming. When they did ASTB. It was cool, but Tim needs to chill out on the intro and leave it to Fonz and Dave. Boyds solo was class, Carter kept it going so long! Great way to finish the show.

So overall I have enjoyed my trip here, I think the Phoenix show was the best of the 3. A lot of that has to do with the venue and seats I had. Was a bit sad we didnt get a Halloween or Last stop tonight but i guess thats just wishful thinking!! Ha! Hope my reviews have been ok and Im off to lose loads of money to the casino.
