The Tropics ... What You Get When You Have Your Own Beach Bungalow!

The tropics! You can see why Captain Bligh's crew all wanted to bail and jump ship when his ships visited Tahiti and Bora Bora.... I mean, who'd want to be on a stinky, creaky, slow-moving ship and being forced to eat salt-pork and a few spoiled lemons for daily meals, when you can be frolicking along a tropical beach, eating fresh papayas, bananas, pineapples, and mangos... along with fresh-caught reef fish and washing it all down with tasty coconut water!

I've spent 12 years frolicking (mostly) in the tropics... while living on the western Pacific island of Guam. From that "jumping-point", I managed to visit Saipan, Tinian, Rota, Philippines, Yap, Chuuk, Palau, Majuro, Kwajalein, and Hawaii. I fell in love with the tropical look, the tropical culture, tropical food, and tropical wear. Definitely experiences I'd like to repeat.

Tropics ... Swaying Palm Trees, Turquoise Waters, Fresh Fruits! (And more!)

Sailboats in the sunset - Boracay Island, Aklan Province, PhilippinesThere's got to be something said about rising to the sound of jungle birds in the morning, then a walk along the beach, to a palmfrond-roofed "boonie-hut" to get a bamboo-cup of freshly squeezed smoothy containing the juices of guava, pineapple, mango, papaya, and bananas. Throw in a little coconut water, and you've got a great tropical drink ... to start the day. Then, maybe a stroll out onto the reef to a net where you've caught your lunch--that you'll throw on a handy grill.... after which you'll go for a sail on an outrigger canoe, maybe into town to see if any mail has come in. Then sailing back to your own beach where you can finish off the day drinking a pina colada (or maybe a mai tai) and strumming a guitar for a while. Then, you light a mosquito coil and then crawl beneath the mosquito nets for a pleasant tropical night of dreams.
