The Canon Company has been around since 1937!

The cameras manufactured by Canon are considered some of the best in the world. They make everything from high-end interchangeable lens single-lens-reflex (SLR) units for professionals and advanced hobbyists to entry-level pocket-sized, automatic exposure cameras for beginners and those who just want to take casual pictures.

Originally called the "Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory" by the founders in 1934, this Tokyo-based company developed Japan's first 35mm focal plane-shutter camera called the Kwanon. The company was later renamed the Canon Camera Co., Inc. in 1958 and then again, in 1969, the company was renamed "Canon Inc.".

Canon - Which Camera Do You Want to Go With?

The answer to this question is this: What kind of photos do you want to take?

Are you fairly advanced with your picture-taking already?

Or, are you just starting and you've never owned a camera before?

If you are planning on doing advanced work with your camera, you might want to go with one of the higher-mega-pixel, interchangeable lens, single-lens-reflex cameras.

If you are just starting out, don't overwhelm yourself with all the different settings and knobs and bells and whistles--learn to perfect your technique using a basic camera.

Once you have gained experience in the nuances of an automatic, pocket-sized camera, you can upgrade to a more advanced camera.
