David Robert Joseph Beckham, OBE was born on the 2 May 1975, and is still regarded as England's number one footballer who now plays for Los Angeles Galaxy.

In addition to his success as a soccer player, David has been recognised by Time magazine as one of the Times Top 100 Heroes. He has received many other accolades for his charitable work and leadership off the pitch.

In May 2007, David Beckham was voted Britain's Greatest Ambassador in the Greatest Britons 2007 series.

In January 2007, Real Madrid Sporting Director Predrag Mijatovic announced that David Beckham would leave the club when his contract expired. The following day, it was announced that David Beckham had agreed to a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, and he played his final match with Real Madrid in June 2007, when the team won the 2007 La Liga title.

Bring David Beckham's football career up to date, his curent contract with the LA Galaxy took effect on 1 July 2007, and the team announced that he would be introduced officially to the press and to fans on 13 July in a presentation also revealing his number and the team's own new uniform design.

David Beckham has supported UNICEF since 2005 and became a Goodwill Ambassador with a special focus on UNICEF's Sports for Development program.

David Beckham is currently a spokesman for Malaria No More, a New York-based nonprofit launched in 2006. Malaria No More's mission is to end deaths caused by malaria in Africa.

David has made a series of television ads in the States asking football fans to donate $10 - the cost of one mosquito net - to help prevent the disease.

In the ad, David Beckham is seen kicking a soccer ball into a goal with a missing net.

The disease remains the No 1 killer of children under five in sub-Saharan Africa, claiming more than 1 million lives a year. There are 350 to 500 million cases of malaria annually.

David has another tattoo for example, written in Hebrew , "I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine, that shepherds among the lilies." This is from the Song of Songs in the Hebrew Bible, and a popular Jewish paean to fidelity.
