David Dye has such an easy interviewing style and smooth sense of humor that musicians really open up with him and seem at their ease. It's a joy to be a fly on the wall as people passionate about music talk candidly. For what more could you ask from a radio show?

Great music? Mr. Dye's got that in spades. And if he runs out of inspiration he can always take entries from Submit 5, where listeners have nominated their five favorite songs and included a reason why they're special. NPR, ever the thoughtful radio organization, has provided a terrific profile of Mr. Dye on their web site (it comes with the lovely photo, to the right here). This legend has been on the radio since 1972, if I've got my math right, and is still finding better music than the thousands of "DJs" that litter the commercial airwaves. How does he do it?!

He's been hosting the World Cafe since 1991, interviewing bands and singers about their new releases and generally exploring the world of music with an ear toward the original and the well-done. David Dye isn't a fan of one genre or particular sound. That makes his broadcasts a resource for music fans rather than a recounting of the week's highest-paying record label releases.
