David Dye Presents the Freshest Music on World Cafe

David Dye has been serving up tasty new music at the World Cafe since 1991. New artists and bands with new albums swing by and chat, play their songs, and talk about their own favorite music. Between live segments, Mr. Dye offers treats from across all genres, to satisfy even the most discriminating palette.

Below I've compiled the albums of live performances on World Cafe, the feed from the site at NPR.org, videos of some of the performances, and more. David Dye just celebrated his 20th Anniversary on October 7th with a retrospective on the Beatles, including the times he's interviewed Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. If you've got something to add, please pop down to my guestbook and share it. Thank you!

World Cafe: The Easiest Way to Find The Best Music

Head over to the NPR Music page for the World Cafe to find full recordings of the sessions from recent shows. You'll find headliners from Glen Campbell to The Puppini Sisters to Feist to Flight of the Conchords. Check the right sidebar for links to previous shows and the Best of the World Cafe.

David Dye has such an easy interviewing style and smooth sense of humor that musicians really open up with him and seem at their ease. It's a joy to be a fly on the wall as people passionate about music talk candidly. For what more could you ask from a radio show?

Great music? Mr. Dye's got that in spades. And if he runs out of inspiration he can always take entries from Submit 5, where listeners have nominated their five favorite songs and included a reason why they're special. If I could only pick my absolute favorite five, I'd submit my own list. Why not do yours, on the page linked above?

NPR, ever the thoughtful radio organization, has provided a terrific profile of Mr. Dye on their web site (it comes with the lovely photo, to the right here). This legend has been on the radio since 1972, if I've got my math right, and is still finding better music than the thousands of "DJs" that litter the commercial airwaves. How does he do it?!

He's been hosting the World Cafe since 1991, interviewing bands and singers about their new releases and generally exploring the world of music with an ear toward the original and the well-done. David Dye isn't a fan of one genre or particular sound. That makes his broadcasts a resource for music fans rather than a recounting of the week's highest-paying record label releases.

I love listening to your show and have been for a very long time. I saw on a web site that JImmy Gnecco will been playing on Dec. 2, 2009, will this be a live broadcast? He has one of the most amazing voices in our time and seems to keep falling below the radar.

I love listening to your show and have been for a very long time. If it wasnt for World Cafe I would have never discovered some of the greatest artist of our time, example Rocco Deluca.I saw on a web site that JImmy Gnecco will been playing on Dec. 2 2009, will this be a live broadcast? I surely hope so he has one of the most amazing voices out there right now, and seems to keep falling below the radar. I hope a lot of people will finely get the opportunity to hear him live.
keep up the great work Mr Dye
