David Brian Cone is a former starting pitcher for Major League Baseball. He is know for being a dominating and over-powering pitcher that was a nightmare to the batters he faced. His career highlight is the perfect game he pitched on July 18, 1999.

A Look at David Cone 

David Cone was drafted by the Royals in 1981 and made his Major League debut on June 8, 1986. During his first 2 years he posted mediocre numbers while spending times in the bullpen and starting rotation.

In his third season in 1988 while playing for the Mets, David Cone broke out and showed his all-star form. He finished that season with a 20 and 3 record and an era of 2.22 while leading the Mets to the postseason. He continued to pitch for the mets over the next 5 years and led the national league in strike outs in both 1990 and 1991.

In 1992 he began pitching for the Mets but was traded to Toronto to help the Blue Jays win the pennant and eventually the World Series. His 261 strikeouts that year was a personal best.

David Cone was also part of a World Series Champion team when he helped the Yankees win in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000. In addition to the World Series championships David Cone was voted to the all-star game 5 times, he won the Cy Young award in 1994 and he won the Hutch award in 1998.

The highlight of his career came in 1999 when he pitched the 16th perfect game in Major League history. The Yankees won the game 6-0 against the Montreal Expos.

David Brian Cone (born January 2, 1963 in Kansas City, Missouri) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who pitched for the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals, New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. Cone won the American League Cy Young Award in as the ace of the Kansas City Royals, and pitched a perfect game as a member of the New York Yankees.
