Sometimes nicknamed "the King of Venereal Horror," David Cronenberg is a Canadian film director known for exploring themes of bodily mutation and psychological transformation in his movies.
His most recent film was EASTERN PROMISES and it won the top award at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival, and garnered lead actor Viggo Mortensen an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Crash
A jaded married couple becomes involved with a group of people that fetishize car crashes. Stars James Spader, Elias Koteas, Holly Hunter, Roseanna Arquette. I happen to be a big fan of author J.G. Ballard, on whose novel the screenplay is based. This is a great adaptation, substituting Jayne Mansfield for the role Elizabeth Taylor had in the novel. Cronenberg also swapped the scene in the book where the two male leads drop acid for a scene where they both get tattooed that specifically look like bruises from car accidents. Brilliant...!
