David Mitchell is best known for providing the voiceover for Channel 4's social experiment Beauty and the Geek.
Robert Webb is est known as Jeremy Osborne in Peep Show, Robert has also appeared on his own in The Smoking Room, My Family, The Comic Side of Seven Days, Ben Elton's Blessed and People Like Us.
David met Robert Webb while President of Footlights at Cambridge University in the late nineties, and they went on to write and perform in shows at Edinburgh.
That Mitchell and Webb Sound is a comedy sketch show on BBC Radio 4 which started on 28 August 2003. A second series was broadcast in 2005 with a third starting on 24 May 2007. The series became adapted for television as That Mitchell and Webb Look in 2006. The series is seen in some ways a follow-up to The Mitchell and Webb Situation, a sketch show shown on Play UK in 2001.
The series stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb who also write much of the material. Also performing in the show are James Bachman and regular Mitchell and Webb collaborator Olivia Colman.
Apart from Mitchell and Webb, a fair proportion of the sketches are written by the other cast members and other writers. These include Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain (the writers of Peep Show, in which Mitchell and Webb star), Mark Evans, David Quantick, Jonathan Dryden Taylor, Toby Davies and John Finnemore.
Unlike other recent comedy sketch shows commissioned by Radio 4 such as Little Britain, the series does not tend to rely on exaggerated characterisations. Some sketches make use of the personas Mitchell and Webb use in the series Peep Show - Webb's character enthusiastic but prone to sarcasm and Mitchell occupying a more world weary and long suffering role - but the programme showcases the pair's considerable versatility.
