David Wellington - Duke of Horror

If King's the King, and Koontz is the Printz, then Wellington's the Duke of Horror.

In 2004, author Dave Wellington decided to try something different. A blog novel. Together with Alex Lencicki, who organised the publishing and publicity on Brokentype, Dave began an intensive regime of writing and posting one chapter every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, that lasted for over three years and six novels. All but one of these novels have since been published by Thunder's Mouth Press and Three Rivers Press, and Dave has been busy with the publication of sequels to his Vampire and Werewolf books.

But it was the running commentary by the group of loyal Wellington fans, sadly now lost to cyberspace limbo, that made the concept stand out.

Caution : PG-13 advised

Please note that these books contain graphic textual depictions of violence and gore and are not appropriate for sensitive or very young readers.

Together with a small army of female Somalian child soldiers, Dekalb returns by boat to New York, to steal a supply of drugs from UN headquarters.

Meanwhile, in Manhattan, medical student Gary decides if he's doomed to become a zombie, he's going down with a full oxygen supply to his brain. A few hours later, Gary wakes feeling very little difference - except he's dead. And he's just a little peckish.

And just to add to the fun - over at the Natural History Museum in Manhattan, the Egyptian mummies on display have started waking, along with an ancient Celtic druid who thinks he knows exactly what's going on.

Then a helpful being contacts her and offers his help. He knows her real name, and he'll tell her everything he knows about her if she can get herself across the country to Manhattan.

Nilla doesn't have much choice but to run towards New York when the police start hunting her down, even though the helpful stranger claims to be an ancient Celtic druid awakened into undeath by the same epidemic that is turning everyone into Zombies. Celtic druid? Who's he kidding, right?

13 Bullets

13 Bullets by David WellingtonWellington moves away from zombies in this book, and straight into the jaws of vampires.

When State Trooper Laura Caxton pulls over a car for a routine drink driving check, the second last thing she expects to find in the trunk are body parts. The last thing she expects to find, after chasing the driver over a barbed wire fence, is a severed arm that moves by itself.

Most civilians believe that vampires, active until the 1980s, have become extinct. But Special Deputy Arkeley believes differently. He's been waiting for evidence of vampirism for twenty years, ever since he was captured by one of the last vampires, and escaped.

Laura's crime scene is Arkeley's evidence. And for some reason Laura can't understand yet, Arkeley has requested a new partner for the case. Her.
