Dawn of Indie Romance

Ranked #8,500 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #299,839 overall

From the With Love Project.

in March 2011, we acted with as much speed as we could and, if we're honest, not enough planning. The first "With Love" Anthology was created in a rush, pulled together from random donations from incredibly generous Independent writers.
Catrina and I are so grateful to you all. The writers who donated the stories, who are still donating stories, you're amazing. The readers who bought that first anthology, you're wonderful. Thank you.
It hasn't stopped.
Catrina and I were flooded with requests, questions, when is the next anthology due? What will be the theme?
Next one? We hadn't planned that far ahead, hadn't thought about it. But there was clearly an interest so we started planning, learning from the problems we had to solve during the creation of that first Anthology.
So, here we are again. Welcome to the "Dawn of Indie Romance", brought to you by the With Love Project. This is the first in a planned series of themed anthologies, and, as you might have guessed, is filled with Romance stories. But, hey, you know us, right? It's not just fluffy romance in here, there are twists and turns too. Even if romance isn't your thing, you might find something among the seven stories here to intrigue you.
As always, any creation from the With Love Project, in conjunction with Ethics Trading, and The Writing Network, has been produced with help from artists and writers who have donated their work and net profits from sales of this book will be passed to Medecins Sans Frontieres to support their ongoing work in emergency situations around the world. As I type this they are working in Somalia amid the catastrophic drought there, saving lives with every donation we can send them. They are still working in Japan, DR Congo, many other countries.
Founded in 1971, MSF is an international medical humanitarian organization working in more than 60 countries to assist people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe. Their work is without limit, without borders, without prejudice. They simply save lives wherever they can. I stand and applaud every woman and man who works with MSF, and I am proud to be able to support your work in this small way.

What is the "With Love project"?

The With Love Project was created through a collaboration between a British company, Ethics Trading, and an American company, The Writing Network.

It began as a one off idea to produce an anthology of short stories to help raise funds to support the work of Medecins Sans Frontieres, and has since evolved into an ongoing project with the same aim. A series of anthologies is planned over the coming years and all profits will be passed to Medecins Sans Frontieres.

The With Love Project has a dual purpose. The main aim is the charity fund raising, but a secondary aim is to showcase the work of new, lesser known and emerging authors. If you fit that description and you want to submit your work then please do check out the Ethics Trading site for more details. We look forward to hearing from you.

Kissing the Pavement - Kay Beer
Samantha bit into her pasta, spicy pepper cappelletti. Steam escaped scalding the inside of her mouth. She spat. Then squealed. The offending half-chewed, mangled piece of pasta flew through the air and landed softly in the hollandaise sauce of her dates' Eggs Benedict. Samantha groaned, hung her head in her hands, and attempted to hide her shame, as she babbled helplessly, 'I'm so sorry.'
Blind Date - Hannah Downing
I looked at the boxes stacked on the shelf in front of me and sighed. Why were there so many different types of condoms? There were extra-thin, fruit flavoured, ribbed, studded, glow-in-the-dark and even vibrating ones. The slogans on the boxes stated they could increase pleasure, felt more natural and would spice up my sex life. I was completely overwhelmed.
Daffodils - Addison James
"I don't believe in fairy tales."

Her tone was brusque and professional. It was a first date and she wanted him to realize that she was no hopeless romantic. She was a career woman with a very important job at a very important firm. Yes, she was over 30, but she was not desperate as people may suspect. Yes, it was a blind date, but it was a dare. Yes, he was good-looking with no obvious mental or physical defects, but she was mentally prepared for a life with her career, her friends and her cats.
Redhead Riding - Stuart Nager
Kate rode her Mantis Raptor wearing her new red heels. Today was not a day for her Shimano cyclers, the best she had ever owned for bike riding. No. Today, she wanted...needed...people to look.  Her black leather jacket on top of her short black dress which barely covered her black sheer stockings held up by black garters, and her flowing red hair...yes, people were noticing her. Yes!
Stay with Me - Karyn K Pearson
"Welcome, children, to the Society," The voice of Nadia Kantor, Grandmaster and leader of the Hunter's Society, said, addressing her audience-two dozen children or so, each of them soon-to-be future Hunters.
Below the Surface - Catrina Taylor
"Merx drop. Everyone down! Incoming!" The older gray haired woman stood four lengths behind the boy. She held a forced-propulsion projectile weapon on her shoulder and aimed it at an incoming Ven supply transport. Once they arrived in the right window, she fired a rocket from the weapon and hit her target exactly. "Merx, what do you sense?"
Lady of the Knight - Hannah Thackeray
Cornwall, England - 1153
Lady Tamsyn Trevelyan sighed as her maid unpinned her long golden hair and pulled the comb through the tangled tresses until it began to shine lustrously. The evening had been a tiresome one, for she had spent it taking dinner with her mother and the man she was betrothed to.
Only Providence - kristy Wilcox
Mum was coughing again. I could hear her before I even opened the door.
"Have you found a job yet?" she asked, scarcely looking up from her sheets of paper and tiny, pedantically neat figures. She sat at the table, tapping at the calculator with a frown on her face.

Future Anthologies.

Ethics Trading (now Osier Publishing) and The Writing Network are planning further anthologies to be produced from the jointly owned "With Love Project"

We aim to serve multiple functions with each anthology.

We aim to use funds raised through the sale of these anthologies to support the ongoing work of Medecins Sans Frontieres. This charity works tirelessly to aid those in disaster areas, whether that is caused by natural disaster or by conflict. They heal the sick and injured without prejudice, without rancour, just because they need aid.
Another primary goal is to showcase the work of emerging authors - we value, and give priority to, independent writers and those with no, or few, titles available. We want to bring you the new and exciting.
Then again, we want to bring you a book of short stories that will bring new worlds into your dreams, we want to introduce you to new writing talent and we want you to love the words contained in each book.

So, writers, what are you waiting for. Pop over to the submissions page and see if there's a planned anthology that you might fit. If there isn't then do please get in touch and suggest a theme. We're very open to suggestions.
