Dawn Fraser - Australian Swimming Legend

Dawn Fraser is one of Australia's most outstanding swimmers. As the first women in the world to break one minute for the 100m Freestyle, Dawn become an icon of the sport of swimming. This achievement along with her eight Commonwealth and eight Olympic medals were just the beginning of Dawn Fraser's achievements. Dawn was voted Australian of the Year in 1964 and was also voted Australia's greatest female athlete in 1988.

Many people know Dawn not only for her exploits in the pool but also for the controversial situations she found herself in, particularly around the Tokyo Olympics. After marching in the opening ceremony against wishes of management and wearing a swim suit that was more comfortable, rather than the official swim suit, Dawn was banned by the Australian Swimming Union for ten years. This was later reduced to four years.

Dawn Fraser will always be an Australian Sporting legend and still makes her time available to mentor young athletes and applaud their feats.
