I LOVE this lens! I was the unofficial daycare mom for most of my daughter's young life. The memories of time spent with my child are priceless, and I applaud every mom who decides to take on the task of raising their own children. Caring for other people's children during the process makes your life even sweeter!!!

Such a great story! I could completely relate to not wanting to hand your child over to daycare. I remember going back to work after my first child was born and I cried the whole way from daycare to the office. It felt so gut-wrenchingly wrong. I also knew, though, I couldn't last as a stay at home mom. I'm just not that patient. So I had my husband stay home while I worked. Best deal I ever made. :) Great lens!

You are such a blessing to the children in your care! It is a very important job that should be taken seriously as you obviously do. My husband and I opted to work opposite shifts so our kids wouldn't be in day care. It was hard but I'm glad we did it. I couldn't stand the thought of someone else raising my babies!

Wonderful, wonderful lens! I stayed home with my son, we just put my office in one of the bedrooms. A year before he started kindergarten, I let him go a couple of times a week to a church pre-school so he could play with other children. Wouldn't take anything for those early years with him. 5*s & rolled to my EZ Doodle lens.

Thank you for visiting my "hiker mistakes" lens, and here I am to return the visit. I don't have children, but I definitely admire your passion for being a stay-at-home parent and really think you've presented your reasons well, along with some great ideas for starting your own daycare AND what to do with the children once they're there.
  • sittonbull May 24, 2009 @ 5:23 pm | delete
Congratulations for making the proactive decision, backed by your passion for your child's best interests, and starting your own day care business. Great lens with an amazing amount of information!! Before I started earning online I tried my own home daycare. I could not find any resource like this.. gosh I wish I would have. It would have saved me lots of searching. Another great site for children to learn to speak (or for late talkers like my oldest son) is starfall dot com . I'm not associated but think it could be something you would use. My is a very late talker and the site really engages him without being completely annoying to me. lol

It does take a special person to offer care from their home. Although I truly enjoyed spending time with the children, it was the "other stuff" that I didn't do well with. For instance, if the family situation wasn't ideal, I was sometimes in the middle of personal issues. I had a one month grace period in which I would release those families for such a reason as "not a good fit". Parents were always understanding because they want someone that is 100% into their child. 5 star

It's really important to have your kids stay home with YOU.. I personally (and I'm sure everyone else has noticed, too) that daycare raised kids can sometimes act out a bit more. They need their true Moms! Great work on this topic.
  • Sarunas Apr 27, 2009 @ 7:17 am | delete

    I gave you 5 stars.
    Keep it up. :)
  • alteredkat Apr 25, 2009 @ 4:16 pm | delete
Very informative and complete lens! Well done! I was blessed to be able to stay home and raise my 2 and thought (briefly) about taking in children as I saw there was a demand with other neighbours returning to work but at the same time I knew it wasn't for me and that wouldn't be fair to the children, caring for my own vs others is very different.

Thank you for visiting my scrabble tile pendant lens...I appreciate your comments! 5*

Excellent stuff here......makes me want to open a daycare at home, but who will babysit me?

Thanks for the visits, and as far as having a t.v. in my brain...lol...the reception is a bit fuzzy at times.

    Thanks!

  • aj2008 Apr 25, 2009 @ 2:07 am | delete
Thank you for sharing. I agree with Evelyn's comment. Here in the UK there is so much pressure on parents to work and mothers who choose to stay at home with their children are not allowed to transfer their unused tax allowances to their husbands, which is a real bug bear of mine.

This is an excellent lens for many reasons but I will pick out two: it is very well laid out and present AND you write from the heart. Blessings to you.

Great lens ! I ran my own home daycare for 13 years - just couldn't bear to give my precious baby to a center. This is really good info for anyone considering the business. 5*****
  • groovyoldlady Apr 22, 2009 @ 12:20 pm | delete
Great lens...I never thought of starting a daycare as going hand-in-hand with homeschooling. But looking back, I ran a small daycare until my eldest was in second grade - and we were homeschooling. This could be a great option for mom's who feel like they "have" to work, but who want to stay home and teach/love/raise their own children!

I'm so pleased that women are thinking this way- the little ones need their moms and raising your children is such an important thing to do. These are terrific and thoughtful suggestions, and I really really hope it starts a conversation about everything important among young moms. Blessing and a fiver!
  • Evelyn_Saenz Apr 19, 2009 @ 5:23 pm | delete
I know just how you feel about leaving your child in a daycare. I don't know who is behind all this promotion of getting more and more babies into daycare, separating mothers from their children. We need to be promoting ways to make money at home so that children and mothers can be together. The government is so wrong on this issue. Thank you for speaking out.

I do understand how you felt leaving your child in the hands of
someone who "didn't" really care for them.

I did it also with my first son for about 2 l/2 years and that was it.
When I had my second son, I stayed home with both and never
made a better decision in my life.

Great lens with excellent advice and very well designed.

    A big 5
