Beautiful Daylilies For Your Garden
Daylilies, or Day Lilies, as some refer to them, are quite lovely in gardens and around homes, and there are many, many different types, thanks to a lot of crossing of the species. The majority have large blooms and are very colorful, and really "pop" in a garden. This lens will tell you about a few of my favorite common varieties, and link you to others. Don't forget to test your knowledge in the quiz, and take the poll to voice your opinion. Let us know your favorite daylily in the Guestbook at the bottom of the page!
Serenity Morgan Daylily
Serenity Morgan Reblooming Daylily - Hemerocallis
Amazon Price: $12.50 (as of 05/31/2012)![]()
Hardy in Zones 4 through 10, this reblooming daylily has been around since 1982. It is a bright yellow color, with faint pink lines running through it's petals, and has a small green throat. It goes to a height of 2 feet tall and it's blooms measure at an average of 4 & 1/2 inches in diameter.
It also has a light fragrance, akin to honeysuckle, and would appeal to anyone preferring a lightly scented flower over one with a stronger perfume.
The Serenity Morgan Lily is very hardy and would make any garden more attractive
Canadian Border Patrol Daylily
Canadian Border Patrol Daylily - Hemerocallis
Amazon Price: $5.50 (as of 05/31/2012)![]()
The Canadian Border Patrol Daylily has large 5 inch blooms that are a pale cream in color with a deep purple eye zone. The throat is green and the ruffles have a very thin lining of the dark purple found on the eyezone. They're quite lovely and I have always preferred the mixture of light colored petals with dark colored eye zones.
This reblooming daylily is hardy in Zones 5 through 10 and blooms about mid-season.
It's a beautiful plant and for those who prefer a flower with no fragrance, whis one is for you. It smells earthy, but lacks the floral fragrance that some daylilies have.
Forty Second Street Daylily
'Forty Second Street' Daylily Perennial - Hemerocallis
Amazon Price: (as of 05/31/2012)![]()
The Forty Second Street is a classic example of a double bloomer. It, up close, looks like a smaller shriveled daylily on the face of another, larger one. But, it's quite pretty.
The petals are cream, sometimes coming up in a pinkish color, and has a red colored eye zone. The double in the center is very ruffled, though some come out more ruffled than others, and has more of a rose-wine color to it.
This rebloomer has large 5 inch blooms and would stand out in any garden, even amongst other fellow daylilies.
Stella D'Oro Daylily
'Stella D'Oro' Daylily Perennial - Hemerocallis
Amazon Price: (as of 05/31/2012)![]()
Stella D'Oro (or Stella de Oro) is hardy in Zones 3 to 9, and is a prime example of a trumpeted daylily. It has small bright yellow blooms (at 3 inches in diameter), and grows to 12 inches tall.
It's a simple flower, having an eye and throat to match it's smooth yellow petals, and looks great when paired with daffodils or other small daylilies of different colors.
