Come Aboard The Great Train Adventure With Days of Wonder's Ticket To Ride

If you have never heard of the Days of Wonder's Ticket To Ride, it is time you did and I am glad to have the pleasure to introduce you!

One of my children turned 16 this month and a friend spent several hours online carefully considering what he wanted to give my son for his birthday.  It was definitely going to be a board game, but after the monumental success of Settlers of Catan, which his friend had introduced us to, there was pressure for this game to be a good one, too. Plus, if he chose successfully, the friend knew he would be playing the new game with us many, many times so, after careful research and thought, the Days of Wonder Ticket To Ride game was chosen.

Upon receipt, the box was given a careful scrutiny and a great and lengthy discussion was held about the cover and what the game inside might be like. Then the box was gently unwrapped and the sound that a new game box makes savored. (If you don't know what that sound is, you need to find a teenage boy and ask him.)

After that, a short time was spent with two heads bent over the box absorbing the rules and, once that was done, I was summoned to the kitchen table to play.

It turned out that Ticket to Ride is fairly easy to learn although the strategy part may take a bit longer to figure out.  Fittingly, the birthday boy won the first two games but the third game, well I am only too pleased to say I whomped him, and I whomped him good!  (As a result, I am betting that the next time we play and our guest has the opportunity to cut off my railroad, he will do so and do so with glee.)

Anyway, if you are looking for a bit more information about this game, read on. You will find some more details and some more fantastic reviews.

The Ticket To Ride Game Board

An excellent game for adults and children to play together.

Ticket 2 Ride is recommended for two to four players aged 8-years old and up.

Name of the Game in Ticket To Ride

In this game you and your friends race to create railway routes across North America connecting major cities. As the building occurs, certain rail connections are actually completed and others are not when they are blocked by your ruthless opponents. (Although this game can be played without the ruthlessness.) A great mix of strategy and luck, the journey that is this game takes less than an hour to complete.

"...all of Days of Wonders games so far have been fabulous, and it seems that each successive game gets better and better." ~~ Thomas J. Vasel, Uijongbu, South Korea

"My wife and I love this game, it is engaging, pretty short and can get tense toward the end. It plays well with 2 players or 3 to 5 players..." ~~ Learner, Colorado, United States

"My daughters (ages 8, 8, and 7) beg me every weekend to play this game. It is the right level for them: complex enough to be challenging, but not hard enough to discourage. And I am glad they are learning some American and Canadian geography along the way." ~~ David Bridgeland, Sterling, United States

"Ticket to Ride continues to be one of the highest-rated board games at numerous board gamer sites..this German-made game beats familiar games like Monopoly and Risk hands-down." ~~ Daniel L Edelen, Mount Orab, United States

"This game is relatively easy to learn and has that elusive perfect combination of strategy and luck that makes it so much fun to play. It works well with lots of different ages and groups and is almost as much fun to play with two players as it is with four or five. This is my new favorite game! " ~~ R. Spaulding, Providence, United States
