Welcome to "Days of Squidoo": a newly created lens for the purpose (porpoise) of polling fellow Squids. Forgive the WIP-look (that seems to be a common theme for moi ), but I needed to put something together quickly and strike while the iron was still hot. If you've been a regular forum user for a while, you may remember the old monikers attached to the different levels according to how many comments one had made. You'll now get the chance to vote on which monikers you prefer, as they've been changed recently to more accessible (generic) terms.

The old monikers were "remarkable!"

ohcaroline says:

I was a full-fledged kraken working on Mesonychoteuthis when my handle was scrapped. I felt betrayed by those who stripped me of my working monikers.

BlueStarling says:

I didn't even know about the old ones until I came here -- they're much more fun and creative!

CruiseReady says:

I thought the old ones were cute, but the new ones are fine, too. After all, what's in a name?

ajgodinho says:

Definitely the old ones 'cos they were unique and very Squidoo-like!

susan300 says:

I thought the old ones were cute!

gypsyman27 says:

I am a man who likes the odd turn of phrase (I myself am odd and different), so the old names were funny and interesting. I am however, satisfied with the new ones as they describe what they are supposed to. See you around the galaxy...

yourgoldenfuture says:

much better idea

tagsforkids says:

Gotta go with the "old", They were much more unique and well suited for Squidoo.

Titia says:

The old monikers were much more fun than the boring new ones. I WANT KRAKEN BACK!!!

jptanabe says:

Yep, the old names were much more fun! Sounds like a committee with all those Active Commenters now.

KilnGoddess says:

What kind of goal is achieving Active SquidU Commenter...so yawn worthy. Its like working toward mediocrity.

DrinkWorkshop says:

I've been with Squidoo for less than a month, but even I can see that the old monikers were way more fun, and more in keeping with the overall lighthearted tone on Squidoo.

MobyD says:

I was lookiing forward to eventually getting 2,000 posts and a new moniker under my name. Now I'm just lumped in with a huge group of "Active SquidU Commenters" and 2,000 posts doesn't change that.

Bring back the old monikers! They are so unique to Squidoo.

AllyVuitton says:

The old ones were so much more fun!

Stoney2009 says:

Give me the old names anyday, they were so much more 'FUN' then these new ones.

pkmcr says:

Much rather have them than the boring names that they have applied now - they were quirky and friendly :-)

CCGAL says:

I liked the squid related names. However, if I can't be a Kraken, can I please be a Oncorhynchus mykiss (rainbow trout)?

kitty222 says:

I liked being a Meso-whatever-you-call-it! LOL. I remember we had a huge flap over the "SquidU Addict" debacle and they got that changed quickly enough; how hard could it be to change it back to the more interesting Squidoo-ish titles?

Greekgeek says:

Weird monsters on lenses that leave visitors scratching their heads? Not so sure.

Zany names in the community forum where we take a break from work? Yes, please! They were fun. I miss being tentacular, and of course I loved the Greek for "colossal squid."

There's more important things to worry about, but yes, it was a disappointment when they vanished.

Kenken99 says:

They sound much more Squidooish and unique!

good4us_all says:

I was so looking forward to becoming "Indubitably Tentacular!"

I like the new ones better!

Cherrybomb2009 says:

I DO like the new monikers better. That "Mesonychoteuthis" always threw me off... what the heck does that even mean? I STILL don't know...

DaveStone13 says:

Sort of irrelevant, either way. I'm here to create and relate. The rest just casts a shadow.

Squidoolinepro says:

The old names were cute, but I don't mind either way and I just figured I'd add to this side of the debate. ;)

CharlesNullens says:

I'm ok with the new names - I'm guessing they reduced the number of levels to simplify the administration of the forum.

I know, I know, I'm a newbie anyway, so haven't been around long enough to be sentimental about the names, but someone's got to play devil's advocate...;-)

"THE KRAKEN"

by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Below the thunders of the upper deep;
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His antient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides: above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumber'd and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages and will lie
Battening upon huge seaworms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

Say hello to your fellow Squids

were any of the monikers left out?

  • ohcaroline Jan 2, 2012 @ 8:05 pm | delete
My list included citizen squid, citizen squid alumni, and giant squid greeter. What does this tell you about me? Great poll.
  • kathysart Dec 23, 2011 @ 3:51 pm | delete
HAPPY DAY... thumbs up lens and angel blessed
  • BlueStarling Dec 22, 2011 @ 10:41 pm | delete
Let's have the old monikers! The squid video was terrific (well, except for the squid being dissected).
  • CruiseReady Dec 1, 2011 @ 3:53 pm | delete
Hi there... just stopping by to say hello! I sure do enjoy SquidU, whatever monikers they use.
  • ajgodinho Jun 6, 2011 @ 5:25 pm | delete
Well, now that we have elected a brand new SquidU Leadership Council, maybe, just maybe, we will get our old monikers back. Hint, hint, if any of the council members are passing through. :)
  • Cherrybomb2009 May 6, 2011 @ 7:32 pm | delete
No monikers left out that I know of... but I really would like for someone to explain to me what "Mesonychoteuthis" means, as I really don't know...
  • susan300 Apr 30, 2011 @ 4:40 am | delete
I hope they bring back the old monikers. Neat lens idea; I'm glad I stopped by! :)
  • gypsyman27 Apr 28, 2011 @ 7:23 pm | delete
I like this lens very interesting topic. Keep 'em coming, see you around the galaxy...
  • ---Chazz Apr 14, 2011 @ 10:09 am | delete
This lens was a great idea. Would love to see the old names back.
  • Titia Apr 14, 2011 @ 5:51 am | delete
I want the old names back, they were so cute.
  • AllyVuitton Apr 13, 2011 @ 4:22 am | delete
I remember when the old ones went! I want them back!
  • CCGAL Apr 12, 2011 @ 10:08 pm | delete
I don't remember them all, but I liked 'em. I think I'll change my sig file to include Oncorhynchus mykiss (Rainbow Trout) just to be ornery.
  • fanfreluche Apr 12, 2011 @ 3:17 pm | delete
